Hello.
In roughly two weeks I have to attend a party to celebrate my cousins parents being married a number of years. I dislike normal parties, this is not a "normal" party. This is a fancy party where boys will be wearing suits and girls dresses. I have already decided that I will be not be wearing a dress. There will be very many people and it will be a place that will make me feel uncomfortable and anxious. There will also be much social nonsense (the typical NT small talk and chitchat) that I am not good at and that I don't even like.does anyone have any tips how to make it through that party. I have thought of bringing my rubiks cube and phone+earphones. Maybe even earplugs since I am concerned about the high noise level being a problem. Any other good tips? Good apps to play to avoid anxiety or meltdowns?
Any tips of how to not seem weird? Any good tips on how to make (pointless) small talk?

Is there no way of getting out of attending?

No. Other than faking being sick, but I do not like lying

Not much help - but I simply wouldn't go. I recently avoided my daughter's graduation, which I would rank as greater import than an uncle's wedding anniversary.

If I had to go, I'd take lots of valium before and during, and hope I didn't drink too much.

You'll look weird with a rubiks cube and headphones.

Do they have a pet you could focus on? Will children be there... you could be unofficial child minder.

Why do you have to go?

If it's strictly a family event I'd sh!tcan the dress if wearing it bothers you that much. The worst that could happen is that you might get asked to leave (more likely by a venue than relatives). Everytime I'm expected to be at events whether family gatherings or company business, I mention way ahead of time that I do not own suits or neckties as I have Sensory Processing Deficit/Disorder and wearing formal clothing presents a constrictive feeling that I wouldn't be able to deal with or function properlly in. This gives them the chance to "uninvite" if they're that uncomfortable with the idea of me showing up with a pullover top, cargo pants, and sneakers or sandals. Don't be afraid to use your headphones, either.

I will not drink since I am 15. I have to go since my parents are making me go.

Okay. Thank you. I will though be wearing black pants with a nice shirt. And most likely my favorite shoes. I do not want to make a big scene out of me having PDDNOS so I think I will just entertain myself with my phone and rubiks cube.
