Is my diagnose "official"
Hello,
as some of you that have read my earlier posts you know that i have a diagnose of essentially PDD-NOS (f84.4) although i think i might have been misdiagnosed and am thinking of getting tested for aspergers.
But here is my question. Is my diagnose "official".
I got my diagnose when the doctor or whatever did a extremely long test (102 pages) to test me for anything from schizophrenia to depression etc.
Before they read my diagnoses they said that my social difficulties could be from (high functioning) autism, but when they read my diagnose(s) they say i have f84.8 (that is to my understanding basically PDD-NOS). I am still rather confused about the diagnose (that i received over a year ago) and what it means.
Can i say i am on the spectrum? If someone asks could i say i am autistic?

If you have been diagnosed with PDD nos then you are classed as on the spectrum, so you can tell people that if you wish.
I don't think they diagnose aspergers anymore because now aspergers is under autism spectrum disorder in the DSM. I may be wrong though. PDD nos would mean you fit some of the criteria for autism and/or aspergers, it might not be certain where you fit exactly but you are on the spectrum.
I hope this helps

If you were diagnosed under the DSM IV (which a diagnosis of PDD-NOS would indicate) then provided you have or have had difficulties in both social interaction/communication and restricted and repetitive behaviours then your diagnosis would be rolled into Autistic Spectrum disorder under the DSM 5. then your diagnosis would be rolled into Autism Spectrum Disorder under the DSM. Thus there is no reason to be reassessed unless you feel your needs have substantially changed and you need documentation for more support.
"Note: Individuals with a well-established DSM-IV diagnosis of autistic disorder, Asperger’s disorder, or pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified should be given the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Individuals who have marked deficits in social communication, but whose symptoms do not otherwise meet criteria for autism spectrum disorder, should be evaluated for social (pragmatic) communication disorder."

I was diagnosed with icd-10 because I don't live in the US

I don't live in the usa either. I'm from the UK.
Hm maybe talk to your doctor or the person who originally diagnosed you if possible. In the UK pdd nos is part of the spectrum. It would be the same everywhere

If I recall correctly you had a slight speech delay? Please correct me if that's wrong.
But having the speech delay rules out Asperger's, though you still share the symptoms. And by what they said there about high functioning autism makes me think you're part of this subgroup of PDD-NOS:
"A high-functioning group (around 25 percent) whose symptoms largely overlap with that of Asperger syndrome, but who differ in terms of having a lag in language development and/or mild cognitive impairment. (The criteria for Asperger syndrome excludes a speech delay or a cognitive impairment.)"
As to what it means, I guess your diagnosis means Asperger's with language delay.
But yeah, your diagnosis sounds official.
You are on the spectrum and you are autistic so you wouldn't be wrong by telling people that. PDD-NOS is just a subtype of autism, in the exact same way Asperger's is a subtype of autism. Autistic disorder, Asperger's, and PDD-NOS are all just different types of autism.
Hope I explained this alright.
