Workplace Sensory Issues
Hello I am 23 and work as an engineer. I have some questions about sensory issues I have been experiencing and if it seems like textbook ASD or more ADD.
Some background on the work environment first. I work upstairs in a manufacturing building with about 6 other cubicles. The noise from the floor is constantly irritating; air compressors constantly going off, door opening and closing constantly, coworkers typing, staples going on/off. I often find myself drumming on the table, rubbing the keyboard, bouncing my feet around, rubbing my hair to block out all of this external stimuli.
Are these issues common for the work environment I am in?
And does this seem more ADD or ASD related?
It might be an ASD thing but many neurotypical people find it hard to concentrate in noisy surroundings too. Unfortunately noise is a problem in many jobs. The fact that you are stimming to block out the noise sounds like ASD though.
