Apparently NOT autistic?
Hello.
I just got back from my therapist. I asked her to check my diagnose, and she did. BUT it was not what i was expecting. She said that the diagnose i have is a standard diagnose which then needs an explanation. She said that she does not think i ave autism. But i think there is a big possibility i do. The diagnose i have is in the same group as autism & aspergers. My diagnose is Other PDD. I feel like i am not being heard here enough. There are so many aspects of me that fit so well to the criteria for aspergers, but it seems to go unnoticed. They have not even tested me. Just because i may seem "normal" (NT) during the 45 mins i spend there does not make me NT or "normal". To talk to one person in the same environment every time does not give them a good idea of me. I seem functional because i can take the bus by myself or because i am always on time but there is so much i also cannot do. I feel like that they have a really stereotype of aspergers to compare me to and think no way she as aspergers. Am i a hypochondriac that is just convinced i have aspergers/HFA or might i actually have it?
I have taken tests online that can give you an indication if you might have it and should be officially tested. On all of them i was on "Autism likely" or way above the "normal" scores?

This is pretty much the same thing as PDDNOS. They diagnose you with that, frequently, if your symptoms are a little vaguer than people who are diagnosed with Autistic Disorder or Asperger's.
It's sort of a "catch-all" diagnosis for people who are difficult to diagnose precisely.
What I would worry about is you doing well in school, and trying to get out of Special Ed.
Forget about "labels."

But they said i dont have aspergers.
And the specification i had was: Difficulty with (social) communication/Difficulties with social reciprocity (depends on what language you read the specification in.

If thats the only thing they said about you and you don't have repetitive behaviors and intense interests you might get the diagnosis of Social Communication Disorder under DSM-5. It is a separate diagnosis, outside the ASD spectrum.
That's with all Pervasive Development Disorders (PDD's)--the stuff about "social reciprocity." In other words, you have difficulty socializing.
You have something that is difficult to diagnose, so they gave you a general label.
It's like saying you have a "respiratory disorder," rather than specifically "pneumonia."
It happens to lots of people here in the US.

The thing is that i do have repetitive behaviors (like stimming, routines) and i have special interests parrots and a game called the last of us. (plus math). But since they did not "offically" test me they did not find out about those.

PDD NOS is a form of autism to help you understand it here is an image:
If that doesn't help surely this will:
PDD NOS is when you have symptoms of more than one autistic disorder but do not fit the diagnostic criteria for any of them.

So even if my therapist said i dont have aspergers but said i have autistic traits i still have PDDNOS?
Your pictures were very helpful thank you

You're welcome.
As far as I'm concerned therapists can't diagnose people. Therapists can refer you to a specialist who can then diagnose you.
Autism has 3 components social, communication and behaviour. Classic autism is a combination of all and Asperger's is social and behaviour.
PDD-NOS could be social and communication or communication and behaviour.

You have an "autism spectrum disorder." You are, in general, "autistic."
Your symptoms are considered too vague to give you a specific disorder like "Asperger's" or "autistic disorder."
Rudin sent excellent pictures.
Please...do yourself a favor: forget the label. Just do the best you can with whatever strengths/weaknesses you have.
In other words, you have a cold.
But they can't tell what TYPE of cold it is--whether it's a head cold or a chest cold.
So they say you have a cold, without saying whether it is a head or a chest cold.
You still have a cold, though.
Just like you still have an autism spectrum disorder if you're diagnosed with PDDNOS.
It doesn't matter, really, whether you are autistic or not. You are a person. You have to live in the world, whether or not you have autism.
You seem like a nice person. I wouldn't get so hung up on labels. It will limit your progress in life and in school.

Okay thank you for the explanation, i think i understand much better now.

PDD-NOS is autism but a different kind. It just means you don't fit in either Asperger's or Autistic box, (the DSM) and now that they have gotten rid of all these labels, it's all Autism Spectrum Disorder so PDD-NOS could be social communication disorder or autism under the DSM-5.

PDD-NOS is on the autistic spectrum. Social communication disorder is not on the autistic spectrum, so if PDD-NOS is a form of autism is can't be a social communication disorder. SCD is a sub-disorder of autism but not autism.

They changed the criteria and made it more strict so that means not everyone who is diagnosed under the DSM IV will meet the DSM 5 if re diagnosed and I read not all kids with PDD-NOS will meet the new criteria. So that is why i said it will either be SCD or autism because I meant either of the two and. I wasn't calling SCD autism. They had changed it and created a new label for kids who have communication and social issues but don't have any restricted behavior and stereotypical behavior but they made it not autism this time. But I wonder what about kids who have that too but didn't meet one more in the next part under the DSM but met all three in the first part for social and communication but not the next part for repetitive and restricted behaviors because they only met one instead of two or more? Would they still be SCD? That is why not everyone agrees with the change I am guessing. I have heard there are still debates about it and not all doctors agree with the change.
Or what if someone met enough in the second part of the ASD criteria but didn't meet all three in the first part? SCD?
See what I am saying?
