Is your aspergers as much of a problem to you as it would be if you had never found your niche?

I ask this question in good faith.

I haven't found my niche; that dog certainly has.

my niche is being a hermit. if I had not been able to be a hermit my AS would likely have killed me. as it is, being a hermit for me is at the right speed for my AS.

I like this question and will surely marinate on it for a few days.

My initial response is that without ASD, I wouldn't have found my niche. Maps have always fascinated me and I feel extremely lucky to have been able to make a career out of making them. I'm not entirely sure if that would've happened without my special interest in maps, and thus, without ASD.

That said, ASD without my niche seems like a terrifying prospect. Hence, my next few days of sorting the question out in my head...

I think of my "niche" as one of the best parts of my AS. I can't imagine life without it--really.

I would rather my "niche" woulda been something practical, but can't win 'em all, I guess
