Um what should I file as income tax if I don't have an income? I am sorta a "kept" woman...I work in the office of my boyfriend's small herb shop. I help run Super Happy Fun Land (with my boyfriend) and I Occasionally MIGHT sell a measly sock monkey here and there for less than minimum wage....I have actually been under the radar for many years..not reciving a notable income beyond petty spending cash...or doing odd jobs to pay the measly rent on my rooming house in my pre-SHFL years....I have been told alternately that i should/shouldn't bother filing...and frankly these days I am clueless about what to do.

you might find something useful on the federal tax site(not sure what it is called) but I think there is a opening page about who should and shouldnt file.I know if your income is below a certain level you dont have to apply because you wont owe anything but I am not sure of the level.I seldom files in part time jobs during college. What makes your situation more complicated is that if you are getting money...under the table, you need some form of W2 form to prove your income. The only thing to keep in mind is that you got hurt,I dont think you will qualify for workers comp? Also, not paying into social security for when you retire???Hope your in a stable relationship and he has named you his beneficiary.

I was under the impression you could make a few thousands and not required to file.

yeah. me too.
I currently don't get a paycheck and haven't in several years..not since 2003...for a part-time low-wage job.
In those days, occasionally I would get rental assistance from my folks...but nothing signifigant and my rent was really cheap.
I just don't want to get in toruble with the IRS....my dad says I should file, but for what? the measly pocket money I get sometimes? What form do you file if you have nothing to report?

I think you can make up to $7000 and not have to pay. I may be wrong but I think sometimes you can get money back for certain deductions even when you make under $7000. If you are making money you do need to file income tax because you cannot count on a spouse to always stay with you. That's just how relationships are sometimes. You need to be able to draw Soc Sec & Medicare when you are old enough so you need to pay in.

Something alot of people don't know... If you are married to someone for 10 yrs or more even if you end up divorcing you can draw additional money on your Soc Sec off their lifetime of income too. It gets you a little more money that way.

You probably don't have to report. But, you may want to consider marriage (for the future) in order to be a tax benefit to someone.

If you didn't get a W2, and you were paid "under the table" then don't worry about it.

I made <$3000, there's no tax on that but I still have to file to get the withheld momey back and for my financial aid.

I seem to remember that you can get financial aid without filing. IF you are otherwise exempt.
