Hey all, I'm still new at this. I have a cluster of symptoms that matches Aspergers, and I'm pretty sure I have it, especially after reading other people's stories on this website. Why should I or shouldn't I go to a pro for a diagnosis? I'm not seeing what purpose it would serve, but I wanted to get some advice on that. Thanks for the help.

You should only get diagnosed if there would be some benefit to doing so, like if you're a student and could use the support services that a diagnosis might get you. There are disadvantages though. For example, let's say you're married with kids and your marriage turns sour. If your spouse wants custody, he or she could use your diagnosis against you to get it.

ok thanks, here's a little background.
Pretty much I'm just a single guy in my 30's, not in school, just have a job, not married, no kids.

There's no reason not to get diagnosed. And insurance should cover most of it, too.

I think the reason I'm hesitant is that I just don't like labels. Isn't it enough for me to just know that there is something different about myself, probably it's close to aspergers because the symptoms are the same? That's a question, I really don't know.
