Unhealthy special interests

Has anyone here experienced unhealthy special interests, such as interests which, through being pursued, could lead you to ending up in serious trouble or lose friends.
My current sort-of interest is starting to become dangerous but not in any way that it is illegal or anything like that> I have become obsessed with my girlfriend. It is an unhealthy obsession which some of you may consider harmless but I am scared of it coming to a point where it harms our friendship, or is stopping me from gaining any new friends and the likes of that. I would ideally like some tips on how to softly and safely remove myself from this interest.
I previously tried to go cold turkey with an interest and it led me to a very unhealthy place in my life and therefore I'd like some advice on how to end this interest.
Has anyone out there been in my experience when their obsession has been a boy or girlfriend?
Or does anyone have any experience with how to end a dangerous obsession?

19 year old is obsessed by girlfriend... Isn't that more or less expected and typical?

I had an obsession with pornography & fake pix of underage celebrities due to my OCD. It was about organizing & collecting & I didn't really enjoy it.
I also had a mega huge crush obsession with a celebrity that developed into alittle bit of a possible delusional disorder that I take an antipsychotic for.

Ah, yes. For me, the age old 'obsession problem' has always ruled the the inner workings of my mind, well, so it seems at least.

When you go cold turkey, have you tried not making a big deal out of it? It may help not to make a big scene in your mind and just casually let it 'fade' away. The other thing you could potentially try (which I wish I had done) is to talk to your girlfriend about your problem and that your willing to stop. Perhaps, you could work togeather to solve the issue?

Yes. I got REALLY into alcohol and drugs for a few years and am lucky to have survived the experience.

^ This, I've overdosed on heroin 3 times now, the last one put me in a coma on life support with sepsis of the blood that almost stopped my heart, lungs weren't functioning at all and I was intubated, and a stroke on top of it...all at the ripe age of 26.

I wish I had it in me to become obsessed with my girlfriends, I usually can't stand them after a few weeks

Only inasmuch as you're expected to have a girlfriend. This kind of expectation can vary wildly depending on your circumstances.
