After my "diagnosis" over a month ago, I have started to question the little things I do, and wonder if they are indeed quirks of being an Aspie, or perhaps I just trying to pigeon hole everything thing into this.

Here is my list, how many people out there have the same quirks.

Chewing pen tops, everyone knows my pens as the pen tops are always well chewed, at least now though I am eating my greens!! !! !

Pun based humour, I am always very quick at finding puns in everything, as an example cleaning windows must be a pane (Pain).

Creeping up on people, in the office I tend to move quite quietly and end up being next to them without them noticing.

Walking very quickly, I tend to walk everywhere very quickly, and people cannot keep up with me.

Cracking fingers/ joints, I tend to do this all the time.

Breaking pens, I tend to break things as a release of tension, with bic type pens tending to bear the brunt, (also cheap to replace.)

Doodling, I tend to doodle in meetings, even though I very good at making notes.

So how many of these are aspie traits, and how many out there do the same thing.

Check on all points except the vendetta against pens.

I can imagine I'll start doing this if I'm diagnosed as having Aspergers too (I've had a psychiatrist and psychologist both say I very likely have it, currently waiting for the actual diagnosis).

I can relate to all of these aside from breaking pens, doodling and chewing pens. The pun based humour is a big one for me. I seriously love puns. A fish swam into a large concrete wall, it turned around and said "dam". I also crack my knuckles quite often & "creep up on people" accidentally, plus walking quickly.

Dunno if these are necissarily Aspie traits but here goes:

My favorite food is puncake.
I'm a compulsive doodler during boring lectures where I can't follow due to bad eyes.
Successfully creeping up behind someone is one of the most gratifying feelings to me lol.
I don't chew things cause I find it disgusting but I like to carve into pencils with my fingernails.

I used to crack my fingers a lot more, but I still do occasionally.
As a kid I liked to break sticks in the forest. But I wouldn't break pencils cause I prefer to use them to write.
I have the need to walk at my own pace but I'm willing to compromise.

I like the use of the word vendetta in this instance. I will try my best to stop it. :D

As for the creeping up on people, it is not something I do on purpose, but just seem to move quietly.

Cheers for all the replies, and I would love to hear other peoples take on this.

I would put all you've mentioned squarely into the "normal human variation" category.

None of that has any recognizable connection to Asperger's.

That was one of the reasons I started the thread, there is a danger that you can try to apportion everything about you to Asperger's when it is just part of being different.

I am still in the discovery phase of Asperger's and I don't think this will end any time soon. :)

I think a period of introspection is normal following a confirmed diagnosis.

Are any of these quirks an issue for you or others?

Creeping up on people can be a bit of a problem, just make more noise on the approach.

Maybe try to relax your hands more, cracking your finger joints can increase the risk of arthritis.

Cheers for the comments.

Most of them are issues for me, although the joke one can entertain and irritate in equal measure.

Re the creeping up on people, I could walk a bit louder, so people hear me, also a bell has been suggested (partly in jest).

I am trying an elastic band, as an alternative to the cracking fingers.

There's no need to ask us or wonder. The diagnostic criteria defines Asperger's Syndrome.
