I do blogs now. I used to keep a diary but would always get too lazy to continue it.

I've been keeping journals on and off since I was 12, although sometimes I don't write for months or years. I find it's really handy to see where I was at in the past. I find details that I've forgotten, or how my feelings have evolved.

Hey, I keep a diary, mostly it's where I write and obsess about my special interests (clothes and my diet) because I know no one actually wants to hear me talking endlessly about that stuff. Also when I have stuff that's bothering me it's good to write it all out helps me get things straight in my head iykwim. I also have a password protected diary app on my phone for all the stuff I definitely don't want anyone to 'accidentally' read.

You should give it a go!

I'm bad at continuing to make diary entries after the initial excitement. the only type of diary I'm able to even commit to is a dream diary, because I don't feel pressured internally to record things as they even seem to be. just whatever I remember, even if I don't write it down for another few hours, on a different sheet of paper, less than a sentence.

I too write in a diary on and off. I sometimes regret not doing it more regularly because I forget how cathartic it can be. I also find my old entries quite entertaining (but sometimes cringe-worthy) to read!

I think it would benefit you. Like GodzillaWoman said, it can show how you've come along over the years.

This is a good idea if you're worried about privacy. You could also use a password-protected Word document.

I guess it has become a bit of an obsession of mine. I have been journaling since December 2012. This is when I first learned about Asperger's. The journal (actually a series of MS Word files) documents all my thoughts as I learned about Asperger’s. It includes email correspondence regarding my Asperger's investigation (including the emails to the Clinical Psychologist who diagnosed me). It includes various investigation notes, after I was diagnosed (as I became quite interested in all of the tests administered). It includes lengthy notes describing the two experiments I participated in last year (one an eye tracking experiment and the other an eeg experiment). It includes just about every thread I have made on WP. It includes chats with a former co-worker, as I text a lot about my work thoughts. And, of course, I write about memorable thoughts, events and interactions in my life.

I am at > 700 pages. Which again seems obsessive. I say that while including this post in my journal. LOL.

I have a diary, even two (one from the time I was teenager, it still has a lot of pages blank) but I rarely write in it. I could make it my daily routine (I was keeping a dream diary for almost 10 years and wrote every dream in it so I am capable of it) but I lack time to do so regularly.

When I was keeping a dream diary I could write the dream down in the morning, afternoon or evening depending when I had time and was feeling like it. With day diary I would have to write things down only in late afternoons or evenings and the more tired I would be the more pages I would have to write.
I am that kind of person who has to describe everything exactly so after very interesting days my entries tend to take quite a few pages and up to 2h of writing. Not a pleasant experience when I am already tired after the busy day and all I want is to fall asleep.
So I only do it sometimes.

I write in a diary all the time. Mostly I call it my feelings journal because i usually write my feelings down during that time when i open it. I think it is a great way for you to start a diary! :)

I did when I was 8-9, and then again when I was 11. But I always had trouble keeping up with it.

I've tried at varying times but it is nothing I can keep up with any consistency. I guess on here is somewhat of an open diary altho it is a forum.

Diary ahead!
I just got an advice from a book (written by an aspie), to write, what is going to happen - a book of prophecies for the day.
The idea is, that you create your day. You set your mind for that day. You set your expectations for that day and subconciously arrange for it to happen.

If the author is nervous about something, giving a lecture, running a meeting, seeing someone etc. etc., she writes a "thank you for a good day" and describes all that went well:

"The weather was bright and people were filled with expectation. The Whole lecture was open and the debate aftewards was fantastic. In the evening, we had the best "girl"- party of all. Thank you friends".

By writing this ahead of her lecture, she had allready decided her own approach and thereby actually created the positive outcome. "Prophecies" like this have helped her lots of times. (Just imagine the energy of negative prophecies).
I´m going to learn from her.

WP is my diary. I post things that I wouldn't share with my family in a million years.
