I have had two doctors, one psychatrist and one family doctor say they think I have ASD but lacked the qualifications to make a formal diagnosis. After well over a year of asking the public health doctors to find me someone who does have the qualifications I just gave up and booked an appointment with a private clinical psychologist who specializes in this field. At $145 an appointment it is a lot of money for me to dish out when I am on disability already. Apparently all the public doctors only specialize in diagnosing children and teens so tough luck for anyone else lol.

I see her tomorrow for the first of 3 to 4 appointments neccessary to make the assessment. She claims to have 2o years experience with ASD patients so I hope that combined with the fact I am paying her will get her to listen. A formal ASD diagnosis would really help me, benefits of which I've listed in past threads on here on this topic that I don't feel like typing out again on my phone. I guess I'll post here when I see how it goes for anyone that cares lol... :D

First appointment went well, the psychologist was really receptive and understanding. She wants me to go back on Monday to fill out some long questionaire next.

My mother asked me today if I would still be able to have my driver's liscense if I got an Autism diagnosis... Yes that is the level of understanding that my mother has about autism. *face palm*

Glad to hear you found one of the good ones! I think my diagnosis testing/appointments cost around 1.5k, but I suspect that's simply the health insurance rate or something like that and an out of pocket patient would pay very similar to yours. Best of luck!

I wrapped up my assessment in 2 appointments, and just need 1 last appointment on the 26th of this month to collect the results. The psychotherapist who assessed me apparently collects the results and hands them to a neuropsychologist who then has the authority to make a diagnosis of ASD. I'm glad it didn't take 4 appointments as I'm paying out of pocket.
