When I say this, I'm not referring to music that makes you feel happy or upbeat. I'm referring to music that helps to bring you to some sense of equilibrium, puts you "in control." This isn't necessarily going to be happy music, but it may be for many of you. I'm curious as to how music affects our brain chemistry, and I've generally found tastes in music to be dramatically different from those of NTs for those who fit the profile of an Aspergean.

I have found that "gotan project - la revancha del tango" is a very neutral cd for me, first heard it in a local delicatesant and it reminded me of the music for Galbadia in FFVIII (extreme geek I know)

My brother got it for me at Christmas and it is a very levelling collection of songs for me.

I don't have "balancing" music. I have happy, depressing, contemplative and background music.

Anything by Radiohead is generally pretty equalizing for me.

Although it somewhat depends on whether I'm angry at someone or something (or myself), Blue Öyster Cult always seems to calm me down, not sure why. Songs like "I Love the Night" always seem to calm me.
But more often I just start trying to find a song that will make me laugh or at least take my mind off whatever made me mad.

Well, I prefer melodic death metal, generally speaking. I find that it gives me a sense of stability, of groundedness.

I remember one time when I was feeling utterly crushed, I put on my new Alice In Chains CD, and the crunching guitar riffs of the very first song brought my mood right back up to something approaching normality. It was astonishing how quickly it happened, actually.

Anything Heroic sounding. Movie Soundtracks, game soundtracks, that sort of thing.

The Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach as performed by the late Glenn Gould.
Anything composed by Eric Satie. Also "The Planets" by Gustav Holst.

"Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd was a favorite during my college years. It put me at peace no matter what mood I happened to be in. As stated earlier, Clannad and Enya are also good selections.

Today's pick would be "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley. It is introspective but funky and upbeat.
