I dunno if it's related to ASD in any way, but I have an extreme preoccupation with walking fast. Seems like I'm really odd this way, everyone else seems to walk about the same speed unless they're in a hurry. I dart left and right around people on my way to class all the time and if I have to slow down my pace it starts to feel physically uncomfortable. I even used to make a little game out of it back in grade school, I'd pretend I was like an X-Wing or something carefully navigating down the Death Star trench as I weaved between people. Sometimes I'd make little sound effects to myself as I did it. Someone in grade school actually gave me an award for walking faster than anyone else once. I still have it I think pinned on the wall inside my closet back home. Anybody else seem to have this oddity? Seems like it could be related to ASD in that I have general lack of attention to my social surrounds, so I just walk my own pace and don't adjust it to the speed of others.

When I'm on my own, especially when I'm at the mall or anywhere crowded I'll pass everyone. I hate it when people stand in my way walking slower than me and I can't pass them. I don't like people behind my back either so consequently I almost always walk faster than anyone else. Additionally I feel like I've won whenever I pass someone.

I relate to this - if someone's 50 yards ahead of me on the pavement, I've usually caught up with them in a couple of minutes or so. I'm often struck by the apparently purposeless dawdling of people, especially when they're in a group. I seem to walk a good deal faster than most people half my age or less.

I know exactly what you mean. I walk very quickly mostly because I don't find it very pleasant being around traffic and lots of other people. I frequently overtake people and I didn't realise that was unusual until I noticed some people get quite alarmed. I also just get bored walking along at the snail's pace most people seem to enjoy.

Feyokien do you sometimes have the need to imagine lines from your current position to where you want to go and try to take the shortest path by following those lines?

I hate slow walkers. I'm pretty good at weaving in and out if people though. Sometimes I really want to say the move b***h get out the way song.

Yep, I will usually take the path of least resistance, which might involve me going cross country across my central campuses nice grass lawn or through a grove of trees.

^ OMG I do that too! 8O
And when I do it I try to very loosely (without numbers or anything) estimate how much less I needed to walk by imagining a^2 + b^2 = c^2 lol.

I walk very fast and have been made fun of for it - when walking home from school (on my own) people would jog behind me at the speed I was walking while their friends laughed about it. I don't like hanging about, I just want to get to where I'm going.

I'm high-functioning, so I am a speedwalker myself.

I used to participate in Roadrunners.
I could walk the 5km course faster than half the field could run it.
I'm also one for going cross-country if it'll get me there faster.

Pretty fast, I walking around and in between people at school like they're in slow motion. I'm always a fast walker but its also hot as hell outside so I don't spend any more time out there than I need too.

I'm also a fast walker. And I take advantage of it whenever possible.

I walk hours per day just for the heck of it if not for various reasons.

Funny, I am an infamous speedwalker myself. :D Although for me it is my natural speed, for others it is running. Trying to adjust my speed to others is hard and feels uncomfortably slow. I am also tall which adds to the walking ahead of others effect.
