SSDI 12.10 Documentation for Disability Determination
This applies to United States SSA and is aimed at those who sought out documentation and were approved for SSDI under 12.10.
12.10 Autistic disorder and other pervasive developmental disorders is listed as one of the conditions that will result in a positive disability evaluation. The exact criteria can be found here:

I don't have any medical documentation or official documentation related to my condition, although I am sure I suffer from it. I've deduced that the logical step would be to consult a psychologist or other mental health worker to evaluate and diagnose me so that my documentation is sufficient.
How did you gather the appropriate documentation and what specialists did you see? What was your experience with SSA?
I helped my daughter get on SSI. (She did not qualify for SSDI) I'm not sure if she even had an autism spectrum diagnosis at the time, or whether maybe we just used anxiety disorders, ADHD, and depression to qualify. I am convinced the thing that did it was the behavioral descriptions we wrote. Things like trying to hold a job, but failing repeatedly; how long it took to get going in the morning, how uncomfortable a shower felt, and so on.
By and large what they are really looking for is your level of functioning, not any specific diagnosis.
If anyone needs this support, I encourage you to go ahead and apply. You have nothing to lose.
Neuroatypical, if you don't have any mental health diagnoses at all yet, you probably should see someone. Are you working now?
