Today I was emptying out old information on my Favorites List on my computer and decided to post this short Q&A.

What are some of the various things you have in your Favorites on your computer?

Here's some of the things I currently have in my Favorites List:

    MSN
    Radio Station Guide
    BGA Software Library Catalogue
Yutopian eStore Catalogue listing for Go Boards
    GoBase Organization
    Kiseido Go Server
    Neil Gaiman Website
    Seeing Ear Theater
    Sci-fi Channel
    American Go Association
    Dream Journal
    Livejournal
    Final Fantasy Online
    Florida Legal Services
    The Book of Ratings
    The Brunching Shuttlecocks
    The World of Kenji Miyazawa
    Grounding
    Paris Bistro
PlayStation 2 -Role Playing Games list
    Serendipity
    Seventh Sanctum
    Christmas Cactus
    Jade Bonsai
    Musica Viva
    Shopzilla
Sinkhole Home Buyer and Sellers Page
    Yoga Online
    Wikipedia
    Aspie-quiz
    FAAAS
    Center for Study on Autism
    WrongPlanet
    ABC News and Entertainment
    Bloomberg
    Capitol Records
    CBS
    CNBC Dow Jones
    CNET Today - Technology
    CNN
    Fox News
    MusicVideos
    Microsoft

Do you occasionally delete things when they no longer interest you and fill the list with other things?

Yes, I do occasionally delete things and add new Favorites.

Do you spend a lot of time doing internet searches when a topic interests you, so much so that eating, sleeping and bathroom breaks feel like an annoyance?

Yes, I can spend several days doing research and searches on a particular topic. I will only eat if I start to feel hungry or I start feeling that I should eat because I haven't eaten all day. I dislike being interrupted and wish I could actually not have to sleep in order to pursue my interest.

How much time could you spend in a day online?

Anywhere from 5 minutes to 18 hours.

Do family members get annoyed when they cannot contact you because your because your online or are not attentive to them when they talk to you while you are online?

Unfortunately and fortunately I have dial-up. I dislike the slow pace of my computer but I also like the fact that when my line is connected I don't have to be interrupted by phone calls from family, or business. My daughter doesn't mind if I'm online, she's similar to me and so her own interests consume her time, we get along well. Other family members complain that I am inattentive to them and they often are annoyed at my focus involving my interests.

Do you occasionally delete things etc -
Yes, I purge the list now and again when it becomes too unwieldy. It fills back up quick - google is my friend, and I also use the StumbleUpon extension so I always have new stuff to add.

Do you spend a lot of time doing internet searches when a topic interests you, so much so that eating, sleeping and bathroom breaks feel like an annoyance? -
oh yes... I frequently fall asleep at the PC, wake up and carry on with what I was doing... and I don't break off to eat, just to smoke/attend to bodily functions etc.

How much time could you spend in a day online?
Limited only by whether I need to go anywhere, and whether anyone makes me get off the computer...

Do family members get annoyed when they cannot contact you because your because your online or are not attentive to them when they talk to you while you are online?
Annoyed, exasperated, resigned... but surprisingly tolerant :P

Duncvis

You have some cool stuff in your Favorites as well. It's also nice to know I'm not the only one who has a disgruntled family when it comes to this. I also stop only to smoke since I don't smoke in my house, otherwise food and rest could be pushed aside when it comes to searches. Like you, my Favorites get too full so I have to occasionally take some things out so I don't get overcrowded. I used to keep tons of files on my computer until I got a burner, it was overcrowded and slowed my computer down too much.

Yes, while sitting in front of the ol' laptop, my bladder has to get pretty damn full for me to realize "Oh. Guess I need to pee."

Just did. Cleared out almost all of them, above is pritty much my entire favs

No. However, when researching, I usually have a snack or 2 nearby. Also, I don't sleep much anyway.

Hmm. Depends. If you mean just leaving the net connected, 24/7 is possible. If you mean actually using the net (including games) about 16 hours. If you take the games out then about 5 hours. Yes, I play a lot of games.

Do family members get annoyed when they cannot contact you because your because your online or are not attentive to them when they talk to you while you are online?

If they want me, they shout up the stairs. :D

What are some of the various things you have in your Favorites on your computer?

Far too many to list. Thousands of links. And those are subdivided into 10 folders, each of which include subfolders, and a long list of links that just don't seem to fit into any folder. Some of my folders include

~Family
~Homeschooling
~AS
~Faith
~Cooking
~Genealogy
~SoBeDiet
~Kentucky (we're planning to relocate there summer of '06)

Do you occasionally delete things when they no longer interest you and fill the list with other things?

Not very often. I tend to keep things forever "just in case."

Do you spend a lot of time doing internet searches when a topic interests you, so much so that eating, sleeping and bathroom breaks feel like an annoyance?

Oh yes! LOL

How much time could you spend in a day online?

Hours......

Do family members get annoyed when they cannot contact you because your because your online or are not attentive to them when they talk to you while you are online?

We have cable modem, so our phone line is always accessible.

What would be interesting is if all those lists people have just posted were actually links we could click on...

I really only add things to my favourite list if I cannot easily remember the address for them. Hence Wrongplanet isn't there, because it is easy to remember.

I'll just post a few because most of them are uninteresting, and I can't be bothered doing many anyway.

http://www.r50rd.co.uk/research/internal/v2i/engin/
That's an example- some weird guy trying to build a transformer. I suspect its a joke, but I'm not very technically minded so I can't tell for sure.

http://www.parksabers.com/
A site that sells lightsabres.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30458
A thread where some guy is showing off a homemade flamethrower that he built. Wow! Nice shooting, Tex!

http://www.thesuperhero.co.uk/
Apparently a real 'superhero' in Manchester. More like a vigilante, but interesting nonetheless. Could be a hoax though.

http://www.fedsq.com/index.cfm?pageID=55
Live webcam from Federation Square, Melbourne. You won't see much though unless you check it during our daylight hours. You can often see people standing there watching concerts and stuff- Good for peoplewatching! I saw a guy I went to school with on there the other day. o_O

http://www.freeinfosociety.com/
This is a GREAT site. Has all sorts of information, diagrams, schematics, biographies, books, etc.. loads of stuff! I recommend checking out the interviews, they are very interesting and well worth reading.

http://www.everyvideogame.com/
Finally a bit of fun- play classic old videogames right in your browser (using java), no need to download emulators and search for roms. (Alex Kidd in Miracle World! First game I ever owned! :D)

I don't even remember where I found most of my links, so they may well be from somebody elses post on this forum- Sarry!

Edit: Thought I'd add this one too, even though it isn't on my favourite list. It is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in theology, philosophy, mysticism etc.
