Some of my friends have recently mentioned that 24-7 I have dilated eyes... I've seen on some other websites this has been claimed to be an AS thing... Anyone else have this or not have this? Can I make them go back to normal?

It's a drug thing.

What drugs are you taking?

Actually it's NOT a drug thing because I'm not on any drugs whatsoever.

Well then, if the dilation is uneven, it could be a sign of brain damage.

If the dilation occurs only under certain circumstances, then it could be related to your diet or emotional state.

Maybe your eyes are just naturally dilated.

Ask your doctor!

It might actually be diet related... Both my kiddos have had A LOT of allergy issues. I haven't noticed dilated eyes as a symptom for them, but apparently it can be a symptom. I have also met quite a few people with ASD who have underlying allergy/immune issues. A paleo diet is pretty easy, trendy (so easy to find foods), and removes a lot of common allergies...but each person is different....if you can find a good doctor that might help (finding a good doctor who actually does labs and doesn't blame EVERYTHING on Autism though is really tough)!

I was often accused of being on drugs until at some point in high school or so, because my eyes were always dilated. Never so much as tried any, btw, out of fear of migraines.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3744086/

From the abstract:
"...we found differences in baseline (tonic) pupil size, with the ASD group exhibiting a larger pupil size than age-matched controls."

Update: Just put our youngest child to bed. His pupils are perpetually almost as big as his iris. We are also starting to wonder about his being on the spectrum...

I have never taken street drugs or street anything except for a few times trying pot in high school, and my pupils always look huge. My mother asked my eye doctor at some point whether it was a sign of anything and the doctor told her it's because I'm very nearsighted.

If you are like me, your eyes could be more sensitive to light than most people's. This could account for dilated pupils.

If they are dilated 24/7, maybe that is how they are normally....or did they used to be smaller typically?
