I am almost 21 now but still look around 16 at most.
It may come in handy when i'm like 30+ and still look good, but idk about right now.
Do you look younger than your chronological age?
If you're female (i'm not) it's a very good trait.

Is it a genetic thing?

I don't think I look younger, but other people do. I also used to be treated like I was younger. Now that I'm older people are treating me more normally.

It's all people have ever told me. I'm usually assumed to be around 13 or 14. Two years ago people thought I was 11.

I shocked someone recently when I told her I was 20. She thought I was about 16-17 but I'm not sure whether it was because of my looks or the way I act. This has happened a few times to me, and also to my mother and sisters. They all look considerably younger than their chronological age according to responses from others and my own opinion.

Aspie traits seem to run in my family but none of us are diagnosed (yet -- I may be on the spectrum). Perhaps there is a genetic component, but environmental factors could also play a role. For example, someone could have a natural facial structure that makes them appear youthful, but if they don't take care of their body then they're more likely to look older.

Someone told me the other day that I looked 17, and I'm nearly 22.

Might be genetic, my parents look younger too. But I can tell from photos that my dad didn't look like 16 when he was my age. Also my grandma and uncle look much younger than they actually are.
Not the best trait for a man, but oh well, such is life.

I'm 28, and I still get carded while buying alcohol.

why is neoteny prevalent in autistics? or at least autistic males? if it is that is, which it seems like it is

That's an interesting question. And difficult to answer.

I'm in my 30's, and yes, I look younger than those in their 30's from my culture/ethnic background.

Is it because I 'look younger'? I don't know.

The majority of people my age in the UK (which is where I live) are overweight. At my age, it's generally accepted that being overweight adds years to someone's appearance.

I look younger than those the same age around me - but whether I look younger than my age is difficult to answer.

Maybe it's just everyone else who looks older.

I grow a beard to balance out the neotenous features.

I guess I'm kind of boyish/manish, which is what women have told me and apparently they found that attractive.

If you have boyish features, you can wear "badder" clothes and get away with it without looking like a criminal, a gangster or a biker for instance. If a very masculine man wears such clothes, people will think he looks like a criminal, but if a more boyish, neotenous man does it, he can get away with it if he knows how to dress right and does not go overboard with it.

I used to look much younger than my age.....but, alas, that's changed since I've gone gray. I now look maybe 5 years younger than my age.

I used to - people used to think I was 17/18, but within the last couple of months I've been catching up to myself. I think presentation helps, too. I get read younger when I have longer hair and leaner around the face. Get read older when I put on weight and shave my head.

I am 53, but I look like I'm in my mid40's.

If it makes you feel any better when I had to cashier I would card everyone for alcohol. It is the law, after all. I didn't really realize you didn't have to if the person looked old. I still get teased for following rules very closely where I work now.

Luckily they didn't make me cashier too often at that job.
