I laughed when I saw this because I've been told I have a creepy stare. In particular because I don't blink if I don't need to and have very big/wide eyes when I'm hyperfocused on something. I have sort of an intimidating strong stare (so I'm told) when I focus.
So, when an Aspie get on about their special interest I imagine that this is what it must look like to some NT's lol specially when they can't understand the appeal.

 That's what happens when you tell someone to make eye contact.

I too have a "death" stare. Intimidates the crap out of people. I think it's a good defense mechanism personally.

OMG, all these animals are so cute, I wish I looked like them! Or maybe I already do.

My mother used to goggle exaggeratedly at me to show me how my stare looked. It was just so unnatural and weird for me to keep looking and looking at another person's eyes...I was trying to copy the way other people seemed to do it...not very successfully, LOL!

But these little animals in the thread...so so cute! I want that little chameleon.

Yes, I was always confused by this seemingly metaphoric turn of phrase in literature or the "unnerving" stare or the "as if they are seeing into your soul" stare... there seem to be many interpretations to this phenomenon lol.
Then an NT one day explained to me: yes, you do that creepy weird stare, and I was shocked! I thought I was simply making good eye contact. I make sure to keep in my that apparently staring has an acceptability thresh-hold. After a while it isn't okay to stare ... :P
I have seen some super obvious aspie stares that just make me laugh because even I can tell they look out of place. Like everyone is uncomfortable sort of, but it never bothers me...

That's so funny; maybe if all Aspies/Autistics looked this cute- we would be more endearing ??

D'awwww, fluffy owls! I wish I were that darn cute. I rarely attempt to make eye contact, but I've been told a few times when I do that I'm staring too much. If I had a face like those owlets, maybe no one would mind!

If you have a really intense gaze, but just barely don't make eye contact as many aspies do, it's apparently SAF. :P

I don't have a creepy stare but I look creepy because I look like I'm staring. I have a low vision disorder & am \NOT a visual person & don't really look at people much but I look at things out of the corner of my eyes sometimes or I'm zoned out daydreaming when my face is pointed at someone so I look like I'm staring at them when I'm not.

i have the death stare thing going on when i start to lose my verbal skills - eg when someone has been rude to me or i just have no idea how i should act... i tend to go a bit glass eyed and just stare at them which suprisingly gets them to shut up as i must look like i'm about to go batshit :ninja: i never look at anyone in their face generally but i can do when i have the death stare cos its like i am looking through them 8O

People who are of a paranoid disposition are trouble by my "stare."

Otherwise, people usually aren't troubled by my eye contact.

At my youth, they thought I'm always angry or too serious. (When it isn't true half the time...)

.. And this is why, most people are afraid to tell me to look in their eyes again if I was told to do it once.
If not, whether accidentally or not, they thought I'm trying to intimidate them when I didn't intended to, which either leads others to "assert their dominance" or "trying to please me so I won't get pissed off". :x Odd, the latter happens rather often or so I assumed.
