Note: I panicked and I feel bad for it but I will leave the original text up, as the main concerns are still valid in my view

https://www.quora.com/In-what-ways-does ... RO&share=1

There is no way that a person this economically flexible could be autistic. He was probably really extroverted. Nonetheless, he lost his high-six-figure engineering job in 2008 and spent the next six or seven years moving around, endlessly applying to jobs. Now he has work again, but he has lost so much money and can't even afford community college for his son.

And what detailed resources do you provide for autistics seeking jobs or struggling with interviews? Nothing!! I see many poor souls in the Haven with this problem but nobody tells them that maybe Autism is the actual problem. They're all brainwashed into thinking that they are Einstein or Gates with no reliable evidence. The media brainwashes people too, but that's no excuse.

Where's your evidence that people are 'brainwashed' on this 'site to believe that they are geniuses?
Are you implying that the founder of this 'site should be giving away freebies?
It doesn't strike me that Wrong Planet was founded for the above reasons. If this 'site doesn't do it for you, maybe you shouldn't be here.

If this isn't true, what other reason do they have for supporting Asperger's/Autism?

No, only information and possibilities, free of charge

A quick search of this site reveals tons of resources for people. You can find plenty of tips for job interviews, etc. I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you should learn how to use the search feature?

I'm confused why this thread even exists. What're you getting on about, now?

Who's this "they" who keeps saying we're all geniuses?

This is a morale support forum. If you're looking for handout support, I suggest looking to your local government or street corner.

I might have exaggerated after I panicked when I read that anecdote on Quora, but it seems that most sections aren't getting updated that often, even the Jobs section. What would be really great though is that if you, for instance, provided detailed employment figures for autistics including the employment rate. Also provide links to special employment programs like Asperger-employment.org

Because it is hard enough dealing with being Autistic in a world that doesn't play nicely with neurodiversity, as I'm sure you're aware. Everyone needs help at times, and this is why we're here.

I don't understand the thread either.

I did read quite a bit of the article though. It was quite a good story.

So why do you support neurodiversity? What do you have that a "neurotypical" doesn't have?

If you already know of the employment program link, why get angry at Alex for not including it?

Perhaps you should note this gap in the community and provide that link as a resource for the rest of us who didn't know of it before. Again, this has nothing to do with anger and everything to do with supporting the community.

Well now that's a strange question, IMO...why would someone have to "have something special" above and beyond the norm in order to be allowed to be who s/he is?

If blue eyes are popular, would you have to turn some sort of parlor trick or be a genius or cure cancer or something in order to be accepted as someone with brown eyes?

I really don't get this question.

Problem is, you only see successful autistics on the front page. So it's hard to view resources for general trends. While I can't expect Alex to know everything, if this is a site for every autistic, he should have looked at general trends and provided corresponding resources.

I suppose I could write an article about it and other resources, but my past two article submissions never made it...

What makes you autistic? What makes your autism different and not a disability?

OK. This has to be one of the most confusing threads I have ever read. I understand NONE of it. I read the article and maybe I missed something but I saw no mention of Autism of Asperger's anywhere. Maybe I just missed it IDK. It's a tough story and a scary one and a good one and one we can all learn from but what in the world does it have to do with Alex or Wrong Planet or Autism? I am totally confused.

He doesn't owe anybody anything. Why don't you put time and effort into setting up a webpage then, providing what you think is lacking?

I don't even understand what the actual criticism is? Are you upset that he is featuring successful autistic people in the articles?

So those who whine in the Haven all day feel left out because someone made something out of their life, get media exposure and then that is unfair to those who post daily whine threads?

Featuring successful autistic people helps break the stigma attached to autism. This shows that it's more complex than people think, that autistic people are resourceful, and it can actually help defeat prejudice against autistics on the job market.

I don't even understand what this is about, much less how the article you linked to is relevant to the points you brought up.

Because I've had 30+ years experience of being undiagnosed and feeling out of place all the time. I disliked feeling uncomfortable in my skin all the time, which was a direct result of the world not being more open to my neurology. Now that I'm diagnosed and fully-aware of my issues, I'd like to prevent as best I can for others like me the feelings of anxiety and depression that results solely due to trying to fit in with a one-size-fits-all world.

Does this mean my Autism comes without difficulties? Of course not. To imply or assume so would be foolish. I have plenty of issues. I simply choose not to air them here in order to attain my goal, which is to help other Autistics and hopefully make their existence a little better.

I see no reason to state what I have that an NT doesn't. That information is well documented throughout this website.
