Anyone find ticking clocks or other similar noises really annoying? My parents have this clock that just ticks and its so annoying. I find sounds like humming from electronics or the buzzing sound from flourescent bulbs seem to bother me more than others around me. Anyone else the same?

I hate any repetitive noise, especially clocks. They drown out everything else. Even birds making repetitive noises annoys the hell out of me.

Yes. This afternoon I was sitting in my office and I could hear the clocks in two or three of my neighboring offices ticking out of sync and it was making me crazy

Birds, cicadas and especially crickets! I think the morning dove doesn't sound terrible, but most chirping drives me up the wall. I find it hard to concentrate in anything but silence. Certain fans that are consistent enough, are okay because I can drown them out.

Oh yes. Birds, clocks... actually anything that I didn't choose to listen to can be annoying.

Some repetitive sounds that are loud and/or annoying to me (emphasis on annoying)

  • My computer fan
  • The vacuum cleaner
  • The sound backwards-driving trucks make
  • Engines
  • Neighbors having sex
  • Most phone ringtones
  • People chewing gum with open mouth on the bus
  • Toilet flushing

Most of the time it's soothing for me to hear a clock ticking. I like it because it's rhythmic and repetitive. It will keep me awake if I'm trying to sleep though.

I don't like to hear more than one clock ticking at the same time.

I love natural sounds like birds and crickets.

I don't like to hear a high pitched whine or buzz coming off an appliance.

I can't stand to hear sounds like paper or cellophane crinkling.

Heavens yes. I was watching a movie with a friend yesterday and I heard his watch ticking over the movie.. all I could do was whip my head around and stare at his watch and say "I can hear that." The observation escaped my mouth before I could stop it, or think of something else to say.. oh well

If it's not distracting me from something like a movie, or writing, it can actually be kind of soothing.

Birds, clocks, some electronics, I hate the sounds they all make.

I used to live near a school, so I was forced to endure a lot of high-pitched squealing.

Ticking clocks, dripping faucets, electric humming, anything repetitive. When I moved in with my girlfriend, she had an ancient, battered electric alarm clock that always put out a faint hum. It sounded like a wounded wildebeest when the alarm went off. She's hearing impaired, so she never noticed the hum. She liked the clock because it was loud enough to wake even a half-deaf woman. The clock finally suffered a mysterious, brutal end when *someone* stomped on it several times.

No one can prove I did that.

LOL

When I lived in a college dorm, it drove me crazy hearing alarm clocks going off in nearby rooms. I was amazed how many people apparently could just sleep through an alarm, when it was loud enough to hear several rooms away. I will wake up at the least little noise.

All that stuff is annoying to me. The worst torture of all is the leaf blower off in the distance. And it seems like there is always one in use somewhere. As soon as one finally shuts off, another one starts up.

I only use non-ticking sound clocks.

Yes. Ticking, clicking & beeping.
