I do and it really hurts. Especially given the fact that I am trying so hard to be accepted as myself.

Well, it sometimes feels like people go out of their way to be nice to me in a caring, semi-patronizing kind of way, instead of joking around with me like they would with anyone else.

I remember one time recently when I was at a doctor's office and the doctor seemed to treat me differently because of my autism. The details of my diagnosis are on my medical records, so he knew that I was autistic. Whenever he talked to me his tone of voice noticeably changed and he used simpler words, it was as if he were talking to someone much younger then me. It felt rather patronizing, although I'm sure that was not his intention. That kind of thing definitely can be very annoying.

I dont really know how Non autistics are treated sooo i dont think im being treated any different

However, i have been treated very different because im Canadian First Nations, I've been denied the same education as non-natives, I've been told my peoples culture and Language is inferior and i shouldn't learn it, I've been denied a place to live because the landlord was worried my dad would be loud and alcoholic because he's first nations, and I've been told on multiple occasions that i belong on a reserve and not with Non-natives. the list goes on.

I kind of feel like I get treated differently than my peers. I feel sometimes like my peers are treated more like real adults and with more respect and I still get treated like a little kid, even though I try my hardest to act like an adult, especially in public.

Most people don't know I have autism. Some people notice that I'm different and treat me differently as a result, but not everyone.

I'm okay with being treated differently in some ways if it's beneficial or necessary and someone is being respectful; But I'm not okay with being talked down to or treated disrespectfully, and it can be annoying when people insist on giving me help I don't need.

I grew up without knowing, so I was treated like everyone else.

As an adult, I don't know anyone outside. Neighbors know I have an ASD, but I don't interact with them.

I've seen a couple of psychologists for anxiety some time after my diagnosis and honestly, I don't think they've treated me differently beyond accepting the possibility that their treatment was a little less successful on me than it normally would have been.

I almost wish I was treated a little differently though, as my last psychologist went through a couple sessions about eye contact and that really made me uncomfortable. I felt kinda like I was expected to respond to the treatment in the same way a neurotypical person would.

Beyond that, I don't think I've interacted with people enough to know if I'm treated any differently. I don't get out much.

People treat me differently from others because I behave differently. Few know that I have autism. People think I'm weird, so they react to me the same as they would any other weird person.

If I don't talk, it seems sometimes that they believe that I'm stupid, or very young, also.

People tend to treat me a little differently because they think I'm weird--rather than autistic.

I've had people think I'm mentally slow or on drugs, and some people think I'm arrogant and b#itchy. It used to bother me but I can shrug it off now.

I feel like I usually do get treated differently. A lot of people seem to feel sorry for me and act depressed around me. They even pity me when I'm in a good mood. A lot of them give me weird looks and seem very uncomfortable and serious around me. Some people are patronizing towards me, but I think they at least mean well when they do this. There's also a lot of people who are disrespectful towards me. I feel ostracized a lot too and there have even been a couple people would cover their faces when I walked by them or move somewhere else if I sat anywhere near them.

I don't think it's just NTs who treat me this way though because even people who seem to have autism also treat me differently and feel sorry for me. It hurts more when this happens.

Pretty much the same with me. Especially relatives I don't see often. They overdo the whole soft talk thing, like they think I'm always on the verge of a meltdown. I like it if my cousin comes by and tackles me. They are like, Not so rough! Be careful!

I am sorry, ZombieBrideXD. You seem like a pretty cool person, and being Canadian First Nations makes you even more fascinating in my opinion. 8)

Thank you, i appreciate it , every type and culture of person is equal and fascinating. Everyone should be able to feel proud of their culture without saying other cultures are inferior to their own.
