I've heard that people with AS have higher IQ. I've also heard that there is no link whatsoever between AS and IQ. Which is true?

The second is true.
People with AS don't generally have higher IQ.
I am not sure about precise IQ distribution of AS vs. NT, but there is no significant difference in the mean.

Yeah, even if the ASD person has intellectual potential, many probably get stunted by all the hardship.

I assume that by AS you mean "aspergers", and not "autism spectrum disorder".
If you mean AS then:

Yes, and no.

Part of the definition of aspergers is that you have to have a seventy, or above, IQ. Below that you're classed as "autistic".

In contrast NT's can be any IQ, low, medium, or high. So if you compare the average IQ of AS to the average of NT folks its probably slightly higher for AS because the low end is eliminated in AS folks by the very definition of AS, but the low would be included with NT folks.

Natural is correct: in order to be diagnosed 'aspergers', you need to have regular or higher IQ.

so yes, aspergerians have higher IQ than other autistics and even (on average) higher than the average NT, but that is becouse the diagnostic criteria need them to be, not the other way around

Yes, I have heard that the whole of people with Asperger's have a higher high IQ to normal IQ ratio.

That sort of makes sense, because a person with a high IQ generally has a low EQ (emotional quotient).

There are many people with Asperger's with relatively high IQ's.

There are many people with Asperger's with "normal" IQ.

It seems rare to find somebody with Asperger's with an IQ of 85 or below (1 Standard Deviation below "normal" or below).

When comparing NT vs. AS IQ, intellectually disabled people with IQ < 70 are also not included either NT or AS category, so they don't affect the IQ distribution of either group.

However excluding them (especially without also excluding >130) does affect the IQ distribution of these groups.

But the two groups are not significantly different in the mean.
I don't know about the long tail though.
In general, AS people don't have higher or lower IQ than NT.
