In England it seems that services for people with Asperger's vary from town to town. In my town, Doncaster, I get support from Social Services...and nothing at all from the National Health Service. This means that I have to pay for any support whereas people who live in areas where they get support from the NHS don't have to pay.

So, I'm wondering, how is your support organised?

I thought adult support in all areas was through Social Services, so provided by the Council not the NHS.
Some Councils do not have a budget for autistic adults, mine does not, maybe this is why you are being charged?

I know people who get counselling at no cost, or support workers provided by their housing association for free.

Are these people in a different area to you?

If your council does not have a budget for these services then they will charge for them.

If a different council does have a budget allocated, the services will be funded by them.

That sounds very confusing. Can you request psychotherapy or medication through NHS? I certainly wouldn't want meds prescribed by a social worker!

My daughter gets income, housing assistance, food stamps, and practical advice through county social services; she gets psychotherapy and meds through health insurance.
