I have found myself at this forum again....

Basically, I still want closure and stuff as to where my struggles come from. I do have bipolar disorder, but my doctors seem to blame everything on that. I can't figure myself out, I can be so Aspie and so NT at the same time I feel, I don't know if that makes sense. I want to know if I should get testing, I will spell out everything the best I can.

People that thought I have AS:
I had two previous therapists think I have AS. One of them I talked to over a span of three years. He didn't think I had it at first but changed his mind. Another therapist thought I had it from the first session. Also, there was a lady that once interrupted me during a support group that said I had it and she can spot it easily, because she works with adults with autism.

People that think I don't have AS:
One of my previous doctors said no, my personality was too "warm". A friend of mine that works with AS kids doesn't think I have it either.

Symptoms:

Special Interests:
I have this strongly. When I get obsessed, it's like I can't think about anything else. For example, when I fell in love with Sonic, not only did I play the games, but I wrote guides for then, I wrote stories, made art, etc... My current mental health caseworker thinks this is just a personality quirk.

Meltdowns:
I had severe meltdowns as a child, to the point I was in special ed. I took things literally, like a kid saying I was smelly made me think they really felt that way about me. Then I would scream and cry.

Social Skills:
This is a bit controversial.... as a kid, my records have "no social skills" all over them. But if I'm handicapped as an adult is debatable. I can have a nice conversation with someone, but as late as college I had someone help me work on conversation skills. I have a hard time with please and thank you.

Reading emotions:
I don't think I have a problem with facial expressions or body language.

Eye contact:
I do look at eyes, but I got a comment from one therapist that I had poor eye contact at first but later it got better.

So basically, I have some things strongly and other things not as strong. I don't know what to do still.

It's possible you are on the Autism/Asperger's spectrum. Go into the General Autism forum here. There is at least one post with links to online tests you can take. Save the results in a file, and print out a couple of copies, one for your records, and one for the psych doc. Also, are you seeing a psych doc with experience with adults on the Autism spectrum? You should if you want an official evaluation.

Hope that helps. :D

You should go to an autism specialist.
