I am 20 but I consider myself a kid, because I live with my parents and I'm childish. When I'm around peers I can't relate to them, because I'm a child in young adult's body.

I'm the same way. I laugh at farts. I joke at the most inappropriate times. I've been called a smart-ass because I always have something sarcastic to say. I love Christmas, dressing up for Halloween, going to the carnival, etc. I'm always getting older but it doesn't mean I always have to act my age. lol.

I'm 20 also. I live by myself but I have trouble doing a lot of stuff and talking to people. People usually infantilize me which can be annoying if I'm trying to make a point but most of the time it's actually helpful if they're telling me how to do something because I need things to be put in simple terms.

People mature in different ways...

In many ways I was mature at puberty.

And yet all these years later I still don't mind watching kids cartoons just because I think dinosaurs are totally err...cool.

I was recently working with people my own age. Ya know, I'm getting on a bit now.

They talk about fast sports cars they can't afford to maintain. They talk about illicit relationships they don't really care about. They talk about ...I dunno, total crap. Expensive houses, extortionate football tickets, how many bottles of booze they can consume on a weekend, killing this because it was fun, killing that because it was fun, stealing the other because it taught someone a lesson, beating the crap out of so-and-so because they were making eyes at "the ex"...

Is any of that crap really mature? Is it any more valid than an interest in say...sexy dinosaurs?

You really don't need to bother setting any kind of "maturity standards" for yourself. Just try and find things you like doing. You won't believe how many people I've spoken too about...I mean...people who are interested in... "sexy dinosaurs". There's even websites all about it.

That's as "normal" as things get on that subject...didn't want to frighten anyone off...it gets weird from there on out.

Have fun being "immature".

Mature is probably the wrong word for that, but the common denominator is power, status, self-reliance, being ready to fight and proving yourself. These are all things you need in adult life, or to reach it. A big kid is naïve and unable to do those things effectively, if at all, so they could never survive in the wild.

I definitely have the social-emotional development of the average ten-year-old. I love holidays (wrote my letter to Santa Claus this morning), still prefer buying toys and games to things like coffee or clothes and other boring things that grown ups like to get as treats for themselves. I spend a lot of time in my imaginary world, and still play superheroes with my imaginary friend Bob, from whom I've been inseparable since I was eleven. Many of my emotions are subdued, but I don't hide my excitement about my interests (dinosaurs!) and other things that make me happy. I bounce around flapping and humming with no regard for who's watching.

Despite all this, I'm still able to function relatively well given my diagnosis. I still live at home with my parents, but I can drive, work, have my bachelor's degree in psychology, and am trying to go back to get my master's. I think maturity is largely relative.

I've been called a big kid. I used to get called a little adult as a kid.

People in forums go on and on about how mature I am. Maybe in text, but irl I'm like a much younger child.

I don't know what I am anymore. Sometimes I feel like an adolescent, sometimes I feel like a bitter old man, but ultimately, I'm just another lost, confused 20-something.

I still feel like a child. I'm afraid of growing up.

You have more to be afraid of if you don't.
