When listening to music in your head, are you derailed?

Sometimes, when playing music in my head, it gets derailed and goes on the track of a different song. I will try to replay in my head the part of the piece of music where the derailment occurred and try to get it going on the right track, but I can't any longer figure it out (before, I would have been able to go without derailment) and just like before the music gets derailed and goes on the track of a different song.

Does anyone else have this?

Yeah! And sometimes it gets stuck, repeting the same 3/4 of a bar forever.

But, I always have some tune in my head. Like a background din.

No, not really. Sometimes I can't remember the lyrics so I switch to a new song or skip that part.

All the time, i cannot listen to a full song in my head unless i use my full focus to do so.

This also happens if i grap my instrument and just go improvise: i'll at some point reach something which sounds like a song i know, play a few bars of that song and move to another which sounds similar, i don't even notice this myself most of the time.

I find a phrase or portion of a song just keeps repeating itself. Even if I try to move it on or pick a different song, it just keeps looping on me.

Not quite the same but for a long, long time (I now realize) I kept songs looping in my head so I wouldn't have to / couldn't think about things that were troubling me. Sort of an induced, defensive derailment of my most underlying non-conscious thoughts so they wouldn't/couldn't bubble up to where I'd have to deal with them.

Yes, this happens to me too. Drives me nuts! This, and the looping thing too. Sometimes when I am working on a show, a piece of a song or two gets stuck in my head and I end up "singing" it even in my sleep!

Yesterday and today, I've had the original Jonny Quest Theme song looping through my head. But, it's also skipping around a bit too. And, it always seems to skip the flute solo completely. Good thing I like it, but it's wearing on me.

edit:
Just to spread the joy....LOL
