I usually sleep fairly well (lucky me!), except that when I'm stressed out, I need to sleep in a more upright position or else I wake up feeling not well at all. I'm not sure if this is a sensory thing or something else. I was wondering, does anyone else have problems lying down? Thanks!

Not me. I wouldn't want to sleep in a vertical position.

Remember these from Babylon 5? Had a few geeks back in the day trying out the concept...

Some people, because of something like congestive heart failure, have to sleep, at least, seated, rather than lying down.

Hmm... I hope I don't have that, but I do breathe shallow. Maybe the upright position just makes it easier to breathe, then.

It doesn't mean you have that.

However you sleep comfortably--go for it!

I have a bed wedge. It's a foam triangle to prop up your upper half. I like it because sometimes I have heartburn if I eat something bad and when I do I have to prop myself up. But if I don't have heartburn I can sleep lying down. I usually end up on my side.

I do tend to sleep upright if I am nervous about something. It helps me get to sleep. I also sleep that way if I am congested.

When I sleep horizontally I have to be on my side hugging a pillow tightly against the upper part of my chest. Otherwise I am flopping around endlessly until my body falls asleep. Body pillows are great and sometimes a weighted blanket helps.

Do you have an adult weighted blanket? If so, which one? I would like to get one if I can save up the money. I saw one that looked amazing but it was over $300.00.

I remember people sliding off of them. Pretty sure Ivanova especially had difficulty making them work.

Agreed. It can get crazy expensive. My wife asked around on Facebook and found a friend who could sew. We just told her the weight and dimensions (6' x 3') I wanted and she made the blanket. I think she looked up the instructions for weighted blankets online. I know it was one of her first attempts. With materials, labor, and shipping (the weight drives up the cost) I ended up paying around $200.00. I bet you could have it done cheaper but I paid a bit more for her to rush the job. The only thing I would change about the blanket is I would make it about 5 pounds heavier.

I read the "rule" for weighted blankets was they should generally be about 10% of a person's body weight. I'm sure that is going to vary greatly among folks with sensory issues. I think everyone has to experiment to find their ideal weight.
