On Saturday I am going to meet someone who I really like, I am going up to Manchester to see her. Trains and too inflexible and too expansive so I am going to drive. the problem is that it will take me 4 hours to get to the blasted place. Do you think I am nuts?

I've spent 5 hours driving to visit someone from here. Several times. Watch out for speed cameras!

No, I think you should meet her halfway. If she's willing to make the effort... ;)

Truth be told though, I can't say I like Manchester much. A grim place.

Seriously? I really like Manchester. It's by far my favourite place in England.
As a Scot I far prefer my hameland but Manchester is plenty cool.

Liverpool, however stinks. It's like it's trapped in 1979.

Not too keen on the place either.
It could be worse, but it's grim up North.

Parts of the ceremonial county can be OK (Bolton is a nice town) but the rest of it? Nah. I don't go there unless I have to. If you want somewhere nice, try the northern parts of Lancashire, much of south Cumbria and much of North Yorkshire. :)

I've been to Southport but that's as far as I wanted to go. :)

I am meeting her half way,she lives in York. It is like taking a tiny spaceship and flying thousands of miles hoping that I don't get lost. I had this experience when I played Elite on my computer.

4 hours is not too much for me. Plan on staying the night (her place or elsewhere). The return trip could be a bit too much to do in 1 day.
