My landlord has company over AND IT IS DRIVING ME f*****g NUTS!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! THEY'RE BANGING AROUND AND TALKING AND BEING INCONFUCKINGSIDERATE!! !! ! I JUST WANT SOME PEACE AND f*****g QUIET!! ! BUT NOOOOO NTS LOVE BEING LOUD AND SOCIAL BECAUSE THEY DON'T GIVE A f**k!! !! !! !! !! !! !! ! I WISH I WAS DEAF RIGHT NOW!! !! !!

Anyway, I know there's not much I can do about it now, since I don't have a good way to get to a hardware store or anything, and I don't have a quiet place where I can run off and hide, but for future reference, what if I got some thick sheets of foam and covered my doors with them? Would they help keep the noise out and help me keep some of my sanity? I'd also consider applying them to the ceiling SINCE MY f*****g LANDLORD LOVES TO STOMP AROUND RIGHT ON TOP OF MY ROOM, but it's one of those godawful popcorn ceilings and I'm not sure how I'd insulate it without it being permanent.

I'm planning on moving out of this stupid house some time in the near future, so I can't make any long-term changes. It sucks, in order for me to have my sanity I pretty much need to own my own place so I can make modifications and keep other people out, but if things keep going the way they are I'll never have enough money or independence to do that. I just wish I could rent a little farmhouse or something without any adjoining suites or other tenants.

Also, does anyone know how to treat tension headaches? I get them all the time, and nothing seems to work for them anymore. I just wish there was something I could take that would COMPLETELY ANNIHILATE all the pain and provide soothing relief.

Well, it looks like the guests left, thank FSM for that. Here's hoping they don't come back.

I would hate to have noisy neighbours, especially living above me. I think even if you put foam on your doors their noise may continue to travel through any ventilation ducts. Tramacet is a decent painkiller ive found for headaches, it is just Tramadol mixed with Tylenol, iunno if that would work for you or not.

My neighbors came back juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust as I was starting to relax. ARRRRGH. Anyway, you're probably right in that sound will still travel through the heat vents. But being that I live in a basement suite where the only thing separating me from the rest of the house is a single door, I think putting insulation on it would help a lot. Closing the door to my bedroom helps too, but it's a rather thin door compared to the one going into my suite. At least I could insulate it on both sides.

As far as Tramacet goes, it sounds like something you can only get through prescription. Is it something you would recommend for frequent tension headaches caused by stress and overstimulation? If so, how would I ask my doctor about it? I take way too much Tylenol and Advil as it is, and it would be nice to switch to something stronger that I wouldn't have to take as much of.

Cover your door in eggboxes, probably work as well as foam, ie, it will hardly make any difference, but it will be cheaper.
I have spent hundreds of pounds on professional wall soundproofing materials, made no differnce at all. Sound is like water, it will always find a way to enter.

Don't waste your time and money OP. The only thing that will effectively reduce noise transmission is mass. A heavy curtain that overlaps the door edges should make some difference.

For now I would suggest headphones and look for a new place to live.

Complain to your doctor about your headaches, how frequently they happen, how much they are affecting your quality of life, and that Tylenol and Advil just isn't cutting it and you need something to give you some relief. If they don't come up any suggestions on their own, ask if you could try Tramacet because "a friend you know who has severe headaches found it works for them". I don't think it will be that hard to get, you can't really abuse Tramacet because it's mixed with Tylenol, and overdosing on Tylenol will destroy your liver pretty quick.

I have noticed that when I am asleep, best way to nullify sound is to buy earplugs. Shopper's or Loblaw's has tons of them.

Moreover, excessive noise is a form of legal 'nuisance.' If it negatively affects quality of life, you may request a court to issue an injunction.
