People are always telling me to smile; like when im just sitting there. Are you suppossed to smile 100% of the time? When are you suppossed to smile?

You probably just look miserable all the time, even when feeling fine. I have the same problem.

This is what they call it:

I've taken to warning my classes that I may look sour, but I'm really not. I just blame it on sinuses or headaches, glare, etc.

But it is a concern.

BTW, thanks for the video. Interesting to see the ATT girl in something different.

Those over me at my employer keep coaching me to smile more, but it seems the more I try to practise the skill, the more strangers ask me what I think is so funny. I can only speculate my constant pacifier use (to avoid chewing up my hands) may have changed the shape of my mouth over time so that my paci-less expressions no longer appeare authentic.

My upbringing enforced a smile when greeting people.
Smile when answering someone who called your name.
Smile as much as possible, but, also know when to put on the 'serious face'...
Zkydz: Hello so-n-so. Smile
Mr./Ms. So: Zkydz, we need to figure something out. For me, blank face which always gets taken as a serious or frowny face. This gets taken as me being serious.

My basic tactic. But it will backfire many times. If we only talk about the problem, I'm ok. If we meander as people are want to do, I get thrown and then the humour can come out at strange times. And, I can be quite glib. Practiced response. But then you don't get taken seriously.

And, the more I get flummoxed, the worse it gets and then the filter breaks down. That's never good.

So, see? I'm just as confused as you are.

I'd say when it is natural, I certainly have never been good at forced smiles, I absolutely hate trying to smile in pictures...which can likely be seen by various pictures of myself I've had for my avatar on here.

I seem to go through a ton of facial expressions in a short time, but the things that are most likely to make me smile are:

-Watching something funny that makes me laugh.

-Cute animals.

-My favorite foods.

-Being with someone I actually like.

-Punching someone's teeth down their throat right after they say something nasty to me.
Okay, I'm kidding about that last one! Really!

Thats the point I've never naturally smiled. So I need to know when to do it.

If you need to know when to do it by way of explanation, it will probably not ever be natural. If something is funny, does it make you smile?

When I posted that video of "Resting b**** face", I was completely serious. You are not supposed to smile all the time. But many people will look miserable with a neutral facial expression. That is when people usually tell a person to smile.

My entire life, ever since I was a child, that has happened to me. I look miserable if I don't smile.

In the U.S., at least where I live, one is expected to smile when greeting someone, or when passing a friend or acquaintance. Apparently, it's also a natural reaction to smile when another smiles at you. But I don't do this naturally.

When are you supposed to smile? I'll tell you when you are supposed to smile. You smile when you feel joy and/or happiness in you heart. It an expression of ones emotions. But those f***ing NT's out there want you to f***ing lie to them about your emotions. Why NT like lying about their state of emotion. I don't know.

There is one good about not being able to fake a smile. It keep your emotions honest, and that's a good thing in a way.
