This is another one of those "help! I'm getting more autistic!" Things.
I wondered if worsening misophonia can be associated with emotional states, in the same way as many autistic symptoms get worse when stressed. The example - the sound of metal chair legs scratching on concrete really bothers me, when it never bothered me before that I can recall. It's difficult for me to recognise emotional states, but I considered a link when I realised this noise is made when people are hanging around outside the doors smoking and essentially trapping everyone inside if they don't want to socialise, and that annoys me.
I associate the sound of chairs scraping on concrete with behaviour I consider annoying and inconsiderate, and that makes the sound (as sound is always the sense most prominent with me) annoy the crap out of me.
Anyone else have examples of this with misophonia or other symptoms?

Some research on misophonia suggests that the symptoms are aggravated by stress and anxiety. This is true for me. Certain sounds are like a big red button that I have trouble ignoring when I am anxious or stressed.
