I don't think I can competently take care of myself or manage my finances. Where can I get help?

I would prefer a place that doesn't try to immediately lock me away somewhere. I have difficulty with self-care, but I am not a danger to myself or others.

Many people have problems with finances, so you're not alone there. I believe accountants can assist with managing this without any kind of persecution involved, or even financial counselling - I have some experience with them when I was being threatened over hospital bills. They were very helpful.
As to personal care, I have no significant self-care issues and ironically used to work for a community care agency which assisted others with aspects of personal care, ranging from the very intimate physical body care to merely social and community access. Your level of care is determined by your needs, so if you were to be assessed for visit by a community carer, this would be tailored to your ability level and the carers would assist you with the rest.
There are lots of these agencies, which you approached would likely be influenced by your preference and circumstances, and usually referred by your doctor. Just a suggestion.

Who are these community carers? I ask about them, but no one ever seems to be able to give specifics.
