Been floundering around for a couple of weeks. But something's been percolating in the back of the brain for a while. The first thing the noggin wants to know is about color schemes that people prefer.

It would be good to hear from non-autistic parents and spouses of an autistic child or spouse as well. Are there color combinations that calm or attract the people you are around.

Very unscientific...may find a way to improve this based on different variables later on. WAnted to see how this goes first.

Thanks in advance to those who decide to participate.

If you leave a post, please explain if the colors are calming or attractive and why.

I like pastels because they are relatively subtle colors, yet beautiful at the same time.

Cool colors. I've always been a Northman!

Actually they're just ascetically pleasing and easy on the eyes.

I like bright colors like hot pink, neon green, bright orange, and electric blue.

This is entirely too complicated to just choose one.

For rooms, I generally like a warm color scheme, because it makes me feel relaxed and comfortable. But not all rooms. It's not necessary for a kitchen, bathroom, or dining room. Those can be cool, neutral, light, or dark, depending on the room and its size.

For clothing, I like bright, warm, cool, or neutral colors, but not usually black, white, or red.

For apps, I prefer cool or neutral colors, neither light nor dark. I like greens, blues, etc the best.

Rainbows!

Okay, okay...for me, nature colors. Never made the connection before but that fits the psychometric work done decades ago that found that colors like red, orange and yellow raise people's arousal levels (heart rate, breathing, etc) while blue, green and brown calm the. Red & blue are at the extremes, I forget the order of the rest.

Still, even in a room of blue, green and brown I'd like just a little red, orange and yellow. Maybe not all together, but you get the idea. I find too bland and uniform an environment to be stressful after I'm in it for too long.

Yes. Any kind of blue. Love deep blue colors. Blue Christmas lights. I love drinking Gatorade Fierce Grape because it has such a deep blue color.

I absolutely love the colors of nature, but more specifically sunrises and sunsets just leave me in awe.

I like a variety of colors from the categories in your poll.

I tend to be drawn to shades of blue, green, and purple. Ranging from deep lagoon to minty greens.
I typically dislike reds, pinks, and burnt oranges; However certain shades of orange captivate me, which is why my phone, vacuum, and luggage are all orange.

The one way I can decisively divide them up is by Dirty Colors and Clean Colors. I almost always dislike the Dirty Colors.

Has anyone taken a color acuity test?

I have not, but I would suspect that I have decent visual accuity due to being a commercial artist.

Can you explain a dirty color?

For instance I like darker colors more in the slate values, but can be subtle forms of warm neutral/cool neutral. A lot of color influence by Mucha.

Oddly, some of the rooms I am most comfortable in are rustic wood type of housing. A cabin if you will. I don't know why, but that is very soothing to me. Maybe more environment than color though.
