Special Interest - Finding a Way To Earn Money or Career?
I am making positive changes in my life. After many years without a job or a social life I have decided to make some changes. Which include going back to college to finish my B.A. in psychology. Eventually one of my other interests will take over and I can't let that affect the decision I am making to get my B.A. in psychology. I'm trying to find some career directions I could look into that incorporates the first two of my special interests.
My special interests switch and change between:
1. Internet Marketing / Social Media / Online Business / Niche Marketing
This involves hours of learning the current strategies of making money online. Making a living online involves positioning and branding yourself as an expert at something. This entails keeping a high quality blog, being active on social media and forums, creating informational products to sell--your content is king.
My only issue in achieving long term success is I'm not an expert in anything I can make money off of. I'm naturally brilliant at understanding psychology and human behavior (my own and others). How can I incorporate this in building an online business?
2. Psychology
I'm obsessed with understanding myself and other people. I make many connections most miss. I have countless epiphanies though out my day I have to write down. My number one natural ability are these "epiphanies" and understanding things other people don't seem to. I connect "dots." This borderlines on mystical experiences--which is why my other obsession is:
3. Metaphysics, Spirituality, Mystical Concepts
I've had many spiritual and mystical experiences in the last 12 years. They have truly changed and impacted my life more than anything. Most of them have been under the lens of Christianity but last year I had the same experience that Carl Jung had. The same thing that gave Carl Jung incredible insight and understanding. It's called "Kundalini." Jung actually wrote a book about it. It's a hindu phenomenon I won't explain. It has it's spiritual side but it also has strong psychological aspects to it. It's related to "ego death." I have been moving away from this "special interest."
Since I started taking Vyvanse for ADHD I have been setting goals and making changes in my life. I have 6 months or so before I will start school. I have time to pursue online marketing a bit--if I could just find an area of interest I can become an expert in.
I'm wondering how I can connect a B.A. or even an M.A. in psychology with my obsession for Online Marketing and Social Media? I don't want to work in a therapy/patient setting so much (but would try it). I'm interested more in experiments, theories, writing. If 100 years from now I was the new Carl Jung--that would be fantastic.
What do you think?
Why not just build a website around those concepts? I'm sure there are lots of people interested in psychology and spirituality.
I've been interested in psychology since I was a teenager, but I'd never want to major in it. I tend to have a lot of epiphanies myself, but there is no mystical explanation needed. I'm very introspective and analytical. I just figure things out.
You could see if you could combine psychology and mystical concepts to create a site that offers people something, advice maybe? Maybe a sort of " Ask iAndrew" type of thing.

This is a good idea and something I have been keeping in mind. In the past when I've approached internet marketing I've done it from the lens of making money. The psychology/spirituality "niche" is something that doesn't "perform." Perhaps it's time I start writing about what I'm passionate about and go from there.
From personal experience, being able to make money off your special interests is really the best way to go. It has been probably the one thing that has allowed me to blend in for so long. Everybody else in my field, well, it's sort of a passion anyway. I just take it a bit farther.
