I just started taking Zoloft about 3 weeks ago. It does seem to help with my depression.
But this Monday was a really bad day - everything was negative and my suicidal thoughts came back with a vengance - worst day so far.
Tuesday I could hardly get up out of bed.
Last night I noticed I was a day behind in my pills.
If I had missed my pill Sunday night, could that have been the cause of my problems?

Could be,
Also If you get depressed several hours after taking a pill regularly you might have to up the dosage or get slow release pills.
(Never cut slow release pills though)

Oh, it's just a placebo, it can't possibly be helping your depression..

Just kidding. :)

It's pretty hard to say if a missed dose would cause such a thing but possibly.. Zoloft has a fairly decent half life so missing a dose shouldn't cause that but who knows.. There are other possible things as well, it may be worsening your symptoms over time and or getting worse before better, but since you've been on it 3 weeks and seeing improvements then the latter is probably not true..

Sometimes antidepressants cause suicidal thoughts after several weeks of being on them.. Sometimes they tend to increase mood instability with increased frequency or intensity into highs or lows; and lastly bipolar depression could be a possibility you'll need to have your doctor monitor you very carefully.. Good luck.

Zoloft's peak plasma time is 4-8 hours, and a 26 hour half life. So if you blew off a day or two of no pill talking, AND are on a really low dose, it could happen .

As for things bipolar, you'll find out if you are while on Zoloft. Two weeks on it fueled my first mania and inpatient psych hospitalization.

For first time depression patients, Zoloft is never given because it can trigger rip roaming manias. My was leaving the country and refusing to come home. Good times, good times.

You might have been having a harder time than you realized, and this caused you to forget your pill.

If you have these kinds of questions or these kinds of rough days, place a call to your prescriber. That is not presuming upon the relationship, that's just good medicine.

But be reminded that people here care about you and hope for a good outcome for you. I've noticed you missing for a few days. Glad to see you.
