I was able to easily do this for over a minute on both legs. Since I have started taking mirtazapine, I'm lucky if I can make it to 15 seconds.

This link has the timings, as you get older your balance gets worse. The greater your time, the healthier you are and hence you should live longer. It says that someone my age (20s) should be able to do it for 28.8 seconds.

Does it matter that the medication has affected my balance this much? Should I tell my Doctor?

I can't stand on one leg even with my eyes open.

I wouldn't be surprised that Mirtazapine affects balance somewhat - I take it myself, and it is known to be more sedative than many other anti-depressants. Sedated generally means slower reaction times and dulled physical perceptions - even if your dose is too low to notice these things consciously, it could easily still affect the fine motor skills needed to balance like that. If you have no other bad side effects, I doubt it is very much to worry about - but all the same, mention it to your doctor next time you need a prescription just to be sure.

I'm not even going to try the test as I have slightly wonky proprioception, and have always had hopeless balance - I would struggle enough with a field sobriety test most days!

@Trogluddite I wasn't that so worried I just thought that It was a little odd because It was loss of balance, but I didn't really feel dizzy. I'm ok with my eyes open so I think I would pass the sorority test ,and I don't plan on walking around with my eyes closed so I think I will be ok.lol

I can do it for a long time >5 minutes. The only thing that limits me from going any longer is my muscles get sore.

I'm 20, and it took me about no more than 8 minutes; about 1/3s of how long I do the same thing with both eyes open.

I wonder, is it because I'm more or less used to it? I understand that sight is mainly the reason for maintaining balance in humans. I also practice with eyes close.

I didn't knew it could be health related..
