whats the point of speaking if no one will care?

That's I stopped trying to communicate with people - I only speak when spoken to and never initiate conversation unless it's completely necessary (e.g. an emergency or if I need something). My attempts to be social always fall on deaf ears.

What's confusing to me is that these peoplea are unnerved by silence - they start vying for attention when you put no effort in, the time you LEAST want to socialise. Utterly frustrating.

The actor Burgess Meredith played Mr. Wordsworth in The Twilight Zone episode "The Obsolete Man." As such, he made the statement "I don't care. I tell you: I don't care. I'm a human being, I exist ... and if I speak one thought aloud, that thought lives, even after I'm shoveled into my grave."

I'm sorry you don't feel that people care about you.

How come you feel this way?

Over the years I've been surprised how much people did actually listen to what I had said. People will sometimes not say anything in return back to you at the time, but will later - sometimes much later.

I've been surprised by this more than once.
