I wasn't sure which forum best suited this topic, so I figured I'd post it here. The general question is: does anyone else feel a deep sadness at "endings"?

I find that with almost any sort of "ending", I get quite sad and try to keep it from ending - whether it be the end of a movie, a song, a book, a video game, an evening with friends/family, or even the end of a lovely day. There have been several books/video games that I've gotten through all the way up to the end, but never actually brought myself to finish them because I know that then they'll be over for good. By leaving that tiny bit at the end unresolved, I feel like it keeps the thread open in my mind, as something that I can come back to later.

I was motivated to post this because I'm almost at the end of a really good book, and I feel this way now - I've gotten so attached to the setting and the characters, that finishing the book almost feels like I'm losing a piece of something that has brought me a lot of comfort.

I always cry when I finish a book too. Reading is hard for me, so it takes me months, but then - bawwwww!

Yes- I always thought this was so strange though... it doesn't exactly makes sense to me in any meaningful context or so I keep telling myself!
I get it with books, movies, anything really. I kind of stopped though because I can't help when things are over. I find it helpful to quickly dive into something else and just try and forget that the other thing ended. Like a rebound book or song lol.

Deep sadness is too strong a term for me, but I do feel some sadness when finishing a movie, series, book or video game I enjoyed. It can be hard to get into something new, because I want more of what was.

Yes. Books, TV series, other various things. Sometimes I wonder if it has something to do with the way these things become ingrained in my routine. For instance, part of my routine (since I usually eat dinner solo) is to watch an episode of whatever series I'm on at the time. I just finished one that is 10 seasons long, so now that it's over I feel kind of empty and less satisfied with the dinner portion of my daily routine.

It could also be because I become so absorbed in the story and it's characters, that it feels like we've established a relationship. So when it ends, it's like the death of those bonds.

With people/relationships/jobs usually a feeling of relief tbh
Books/role-play scenarios/good films etc yes a sense of real loss

Yeah, finishing books and TV series always leaves me with a heavy empty hollow feeling, and I do whatever I can to make it go away, which usually means I go back and start at the beginning again.
