What would it be (if anything). In all honesty I am happy with who I am and Asperger Syndrome. The alienation from the general population can sometimes be an overwhelming dilemma, however. For instance, if there was one thing I could change about AS it would be a better ability to properly express my emotions while likewise correctly reacting to other people's emotions.

When people around me are experiencing strong emotions they often are perplexed by the constant empty expression on my face. They seek my advice sometimes and I try my best to offer my input but it always comes out wrong. Additionally, I have trouble making small talk. Small talk seems trivial to me but I also desire interaction with other people and it is difficult for me to converse normally with "neurotypical (normal)" people because small talk plays a large role in modern dialogue exchanges.

Long story short, the aforementioned personality traits which I mentioned can be very frustrating for me at times. I actually like AS but sometimes i wish i could change those aspects of it. What about you, is there anything you could change about your personal experiences with Asperger Syndrome?

First on the list would be whatever it is that impedes me from having luck with women.

Second on the list would be whatever it is that keeps me from driving a car.

Third on the list would be my tendency towards "limerance" or obsession with people. (Usually girls that give me the time of day.) That hasn't been a problem in a good long while, though *knock on wood*

Everything else? No problem.

Being one of those happy people with AS. I want to be that.

Knowing what's appropriate to say and what's not so people don't think I'm weird. Even on the best days of my life when I've been having fun with people I like all day, I go home and think about what I did wrong ("Should I not have mentioned she had a smudge on her dress?" etc).

hey, WildMan! I put these two together because this is what impedes me from having luck with men! I found out if a guy comes on to me strong enough to break through my usual aloofness (guys like a challenge) this sets off my limerance quotient and I scare the pants off of them by being such a clinging siko they have to get the h*ll away. That sort of thing gets around the grapevine and ergo, I have less luck with the rest of the men.

when it REALLY goes haywire is when we are both 'in limerence' together. oh, my, it is like grabbing onto the third rail of the subway line!
(very stimulating, but not healthy.)

I didn't know that was my AS, though, cause I have only recently been diagnosed. Now I can forgive myself for a few real screwups in my life.

thanks for sharing!

Same here. My obsessions and interests I'll keep.

Yes limerance can be very difficult. I find that when girls exhibet interest in me I become excessively attached due to my over active imagination. I can see everything play out in my head, images of an ideal future with the "love of my life" and them wham, they become creeped out. I havent had any major probems with limerance recently though.

Well, there is at least ONE good thing here! I know the major problem others have with aspergers is the same as mine.

I just wish I knew this decades ago. MAYBE things could have been better.

Chocolate and Roses have the phenolethylalanines that trigger the phermones in the gland behind the sinus that start the limerence reaction. No wonder it is the choice for Valentine's Day.
I have learned to channel that feeling of "'thrill, thrill i'm in love, i'm in love, thrill thrill," to not attach itself to a PERSON, but to just feel the juicy goodness of it and think of the spring day, or the warm furry kitty, or the green grass I am rolling in, or some such.
That has gone a long way to head off the worst of attaching the feeling to
a person, which is ALWAYS problematic.
