Your GP is the most usual first point of contact. The rest depends very much on how your local healthcare system works, so it would be worth pointing out which country you are in. Here in the UK there are specific NHS guidelines regarding your right to an evaluation for autism, for example.
Besides that, you've done the right thing coming to a forum like this one. You will learn much more about autism from the people here who live the experience every day than any doctor could ever tell. As long as you keep an open-mind, you can use the parallels between your life, and people who do know their diagnosis for sure, to re-assure yourself a little. For many people having a formal diagnosis is less important than just getting the right kind of advice to help them live a better life.
So we're gonna keep giving advice.
