I think it is. As a kid, I'd play the same kiddie records over and over again, to the point where my parents and sister thought I was nuts. I attribute that behavior in equal parts to 1) being autistic, and 2) I just really love to hear music. But nowadays I have access to lots more songs to listen to, and while I still repeat-listen to songs, I do that far less often than I used to.

Sort of related to that, I also like to listen to the same song at the same time of day, and/or same day of the week, which no one else I know seems to do. I think that doing this gives me comfort, as it gives me an excuse to get away from people and listen to music all by myself. 8)

I like to play about five songs over and over again on loop and I have listened to it for about two hours non-stop. I only stopped because people took my speaker away (I played it out loud  )

I personally use my Lion King music collection as a means to stim and as a "reset" button for when I'm anxious at school, so listening to music on loop definitely seems to have connections.

Interesting question. I will in certain circumstances. If I have the song stuck in my head, I will listen to it until I become sick of it, and then move on to another song.

I did this with Halestorm's "Here's to us". Drove everyone CRAZY. A couple weeks of singing and listening to it whenever I had a chance.

You know, It wasn't until I read this that I even payed any attention or thought to it; However I will hear a song and will then proceed to play it over and over again for weeks sometimes and never get sick of it. I won't move on until I hear the next song that catches my attention. I also have to listen to it again now that you said something...

Often, I'll find a band I like, find a select few songs of theirs I Really like, and listen only to those songs for months.

Listening to songs over and over again is pretty common with NTs too though. Find almost any song on YouTube and look in the comments and you'll see people talking about mashing the replay button over and over. I imagine it's more intense in AS but in general it's a pretty common thing to do.

Yes, its called Repetition, in the same category of Routines, Rituals and Obsessions. One of the four behaviours needs to be present in order to diagnose.

How often do you listen to the same song? Its normal to listen to it a few times a day for a month or two; this is a healthy repetition, but as an autistic trait its usually a little more extreme.

For example: watching the same episode of a show everyday for an undetermined time. Most of the time doctors and psychologists will look at a behaviour and see if it meets the MUDA Criteria;

Maladaptive
Unjustifiable
Disturbing
Atypical

This criteria determines the difference between a normal human behaviour and a potential mental disorder or disability.

People have made fun of me all my life about how many times I will listen to something. Was more prominent back in the day when good headphones were real expensive or, in a car.

Now, at least I can put it on my phone, headphone right in and just listen to what I want without worry.

I have always done that although now I am more likely to listen to the same album over and over rather than just one song.

I think so. I also have read the same books or watched the same movies again and again. There's something comforting about the predictability in an uncertain world, like greeting an old friend. I also listen to the same song again and again to trigger a particular emotion I want to feel. I'll even do that with songs that I know will trigger sadness, so I can feel it and get it out of the way.

I also have a couple of playlists that I have set up to trigger a series of emotions, so I can move through sadness, loneliness, anger, triumph, loss, rediscovery of possibilities, relief, and then triumph again. The sad parts purge bottled up negative emotions and the upbeat parts move me toward a more positive outcome. I think of it as my personal movie soundtrack.

No,it is an OCD trait. OCD is an Aspie trait but I don't think it is right to call it an Aspie trait just because aspies have OCD. All rectangles are squares but not all squares are rectangles.

All squares are rectangles. Not all rectangles are squares. The square is a special instance by having equal sides.
