My daughter's latest habit is cracking and popping her knuckles. She does it constantly. It is bad enough that she walks on her toes so much which can create postural and muscular/tendon problems as she gets older.

Any replacements for knuckle popping that you have successfully used?

Problem is, she doesn't really want to stop and doesn't seem to care at this time what that can do to her joints as she ages.

I am thinking about a large Tangle you but it needs to be something small she can keep attached to her wrist or something while at school.

I used to head bang and throw myself onto the flood, i had a lot of concussions and my dad eventually got me to stop but ever since i stopped i have a harder time dealing with sensory problems.

Sometimes i punch walls but its not the same...

Im curious to see what people post here.

Not sure it will do too much damage as it is just gas being forced between a joint at supersonic speed - The Old Wive's Tale about arthritis etc is just plain wrong - I have done it for 50+ years without a problem - just done it now!

I have to crack my knuckles sometimes. I can feel the pressure in the joints. Cracking them makes them feel better. Again, no damage because of knuckle cracking. 55 years old, no crazy joints (Uncle Creepy Fingers) or arthritis.

Uncle Creepy for those who do not know him. Take a look at the joints in the fingers.

I crack my knuckles all the time, but I cut down on it when it stopped being my big stim of the moment. Still happens a lot, just less. Beatboxing has taken over, which some might argue is even more annoying XD

Stims can die down when a new one is picked up, but idk about getting rid of them completely.

I get supreme satisfaction out of cracking my knuckles and I can't think of a single thing that could take its place.

Honestly, it's probably harmless.

There's alot of articles about this, explaining what's actually happening when you do that (as I understand it, it's a bit different from what people think is happening), and the idea of it being constantly damaging seems to be a myth.

Me, I've been doing it for as long as I can remember. I can crack my toes as well (which bugs people more, because instead of "crack!" it's more like "CRUUUUUUNCH"). I'm actually very prone to things like joint problems or tendon/nerve issues, too. I have problems of varying sorts, including even a bit of arthritis (not in my hands/wrists) in a couple of places (and I'm WAY too young to have that). And I do things with my hands ALOT, since my main hobbies are video games and other computer-related stuffs. But even despite all that... my hands have no issues. I dont get pain there usually. The only time I DO get pain there, it's "referred pain", which is actually coming from somewhere totally different; I go to physical therapy for this. It involves them working on my neck/shoulder.
