I agree with you, random1. I prefer the feeling of swinging over that of rocking. But, it looks weird if an adult is playing on the playground alone.

Not quite as weird as an adult man going out to the only patch of grass in my neighborhood at night to just lay down in the grass and look at the stars just because it feels calming  Doesn't help it's right behind some houses either.

I was going to suggest bringing a telescope if you can afford it. But, they would probably just think you are a Peeping Tom.

Adult with no child at a playground = Child Molester
Adult with telescope to view the stars = Peeping Tom

People have such twisted minds.

When I saw the title, I thought you meant stimming.
But yes, I have a rocking chair and it rocks. :D

Let's not worry about what people think.

I've stopped doing that.

For instance I like the feeling of going barefoot and if I want to walk to the shops like that I don't really care if some people may think its unhygienic. It's quite healthy in fact.

One should be free to release the inner child at times!

I wasn't aware that rocking isn't acceptable.

Because a lot of mentally disturbed people and junkies do atypical stimming like rocking. People see a lot more people like that behaving that way than they see people with autism behaving that way. So that's why it is viewed negatively by the general public.
