I have done this before, it's difficult to deal with being ignored.

I guess you could just yell "the phone is ringing" and walk away

It was kind of rude.
You mentioned the phone was ringing, which is all fair.

the rudeness happened after that statement, you moved your mothers' arm to force her to answer, this was the rude part, you cannot force people to do things, especially not by moving their limbs for them.

sorry to say it, but you were, indeed, being rude. in this situation

Why didn't you just answer the phone?

And it was rude to keep on once it was obvious she knew it was ringing. Also it has nothing to do with NTs in general.

She could have thought the callers were telemarketers. Thus, she didn't feel like answering.

The question is, why are people rude, not just why are NTs rude. Anybody can be rude, NT, Aspie or other neurodiverse.

she was like laying on the couch like asleep or something and i shook it gently and i shook it so she would wake up.

that wasnt rude to be honest. unless they were awake then yes i suppose. you would do the same if you didnt get a answer.

I don't see this as specifically an NT thing necessarily. However, you seem bothered in a way, that suggests maybe you have been accused of being rude more than once, which happens to some people who have autism and its very painful to keep hearing that.

I kinda feel her response was rude, I mean if something is ringing in the background I expect that the person over that something would make it stop. Unless she was busy but if she is just sitting there, I would have thrown a book at her lol

Really a very good point. Seems usually when someone is calling someone else rude, they are being extremely rude about it.

Is it rude to not answer the phone when you can tell it's from a telemarketer or some scammer just by the number that appears that's long and the phone doesn't tell me who or where the call is from? I don't think so. But lately I've been picking up the phone sometimes anyway and they always hang up. They want to leave a message telling me some filthy lie like they did a couple of weeks ago, where the claimed Revenue Canada had sued me for something I didn't know what I did wrong. I ended up calling mom and she said it was a hoax. I thought it probably was, but I wanted to make sure, and she's the one who'd know about something like this. :)

My parents are on vacation down south right now. I thought my mom would call me when they got there, but she hadn't. I'm sure I'll hear from them when they get home this weekend.

If I'm sleeping and someone did that, I wouldn't throw a book - I'd throw a fit! Answer the freaking phone. If you have the time to bother me TWICE, then that means you are more than able to answer the phone.
So I see not answering the phone as rude and uncaring, unless there is some reason she doesn't want you to answer it.

I don't pick up the phone unless I know who it is.

If the caller is someone I don't know, I hang up immediately.
