Suggestion:

Let's start lobbying Mark Zuckerberg to be a voice for Autistic people. He's one of the richest people in the world and has a big media presence.

People will listen to him. He's letting us down by giving loads of money to Africa and various other charitable causes but ignoring what should be closer to his heart: people like him.

People like us. Except we didn't have the benefit of a Harvard education like he did. Or weren't fortunate enough to have wealthy, educated parents as he did. Mark is the son of a dentist and psychiatrist.

But I've watched The Social Network. Many of us have. It's based on his life. It's clear he has suffered problems due to his Asperger's. He should have some understanding. Let's see if we can make him a spokesperson for us!

Anyone have any ideas how we could go about campaigning?

You are making an amateur diagnosis of a two-dimensional character, poorly acted by a second-rate actor in a third-rate movie. Unless Mr. Zuckerberg comes out as an aspie, no one has any way of knowing for certain. Besides, the real person is sociable, and fully capable of initiating and maintaining a loving relationship.

First, you get his attention by inventing the Internet ...

Because he does not have to and is probably not autistic.

To create Facebook and make it be such a massive success you need to have a great understanding of how, NT's think and socialize. Facebook is SOCIAL media.

I heavily dislike the idea of diagnosing people based on a film, and I don't see the point in picking someone at random to be a spokesperson. For one thing, we can speak up for ourselves :-p

I question that even if he did put money towards autism, the likes of me and many of us wouldn't actually benefit...it would probably be donated to an organization like autism speaks and all used for researching a 'cure' and interventions for children. I doubt it would translate into any more awareness or help for adults on the spectrum...unless he himself created a different kind of autism chairity but I kind of doubt that.

Also though not sure he technically got the harvard education, I thought he dropped out of college once he was able to make a living with Facebook. And I don't think he has an autism/aspergers diagnoses so not sure he really feels its an issue that would be close to his heart.

Besides, I doubt if Mr. Zuckerberg would even care to become a member of WrongPlanet.

That's just my opinion, but why would he?

Why not?

I happen to believe WrongPlanet is a great Site--which can, ultimately, prove useful for most people.

There's lots of great scholars here. And intelligent, insightful people in general.

And I ain't carrying the "positivity" card. Never have. Never will.

So, should Mark Z. become a member here based on your opinion alone? Think about it.

What does WrongPlanet have that MZ could not find elsewhere?

What would membership on WP provide MZ that he could not use his billions to purchase elsewhere?

For that matter, what would any wealthy, famous, intelligent, or talented celebrity have to gain from being a regular member here?

Why is it that even the owner this website rarely ever posts on it or responds to private messages from its members?

Maybe because they have more important things to do than to engage in conversations with us bottom-dwelling webrats. Who knows?

Maybe if MZ would buy WP from AP, there could be some improvements to the OS and service could be made more reliable.

 ... and if I had a magic genii, I could make it all happen anyway ...

1. He doesn't have a diagnosis and doesn't identify as an Aspie

2. He doesn't owe autistic people anything nor is he "letting us down". He's free to do whatever he chooses with his money

3. If you think "people will listen to him" because he's rich, famous etc you're being naive

4. Personally I have no desire to be represented by Mr. Zuckerberg in any regard

5. I wish people would stop having so many ideas about what everybody else should do, including alleged moral duties and financial obligations

In an abstract sense, it's all just graphs (in the graph theory sense). It can be understood well enough through study.

All Zuckerberg cares about is his wife and kids. He probably wants his privacy.

I'm not sure of his views on philanthropy.

Bill Gates is not exactly a spokesman for autism--but at least he and his wife have a foundation.

I don't care if he advocates for autism, or doesn't advocate for autism. No skin off my back. He's made his billions getting lucky in college. I don't begrudge him for that.

I'd care more if our legislators advocate for funding for autistic people.

I recall finding an article describing Hillary Clinton's plan for Autism research if she got elected, and assuming her intentions are good they entail increasing access to services for all Autistics and fund research involving Autistic adults. I haven't found a second source with this information however, and no other candidiates have shared this kind of plan as far as I can tell. So it's much a case of mileage will vary with politicians, but we already knew that.
