Strategies I use to help:
1. Working out social rules and sticking to them so I can get on with people OK.
2. Ear plugs and ear defenders for noisy places.
3. Audiobooks also help with overwhelming social situations becuase I can escape into the Star Wars universe or the world of Harry Potter if it gets too much.
4. If in doubt try to smile at people and explain that I'm not following them.
5. When eye contact is too difficult listen sidewase on and lift teh ear near the person higher and nod a lot as they talk. This seems to give people the feedback that they want to know that I am listening without having to hold eye contact.
6. In complex social situations ask a mature friend what to do and follow their advice.
7. Don't point out people's mistakes unless not too would be a serious risk to someone.
8. Understand that people generally don't say exactly what they mean. Most people have a more approximate approach to language than me and I can't change that.
9. Stroking a dog can realy help with stress.
10. Even if sleep is difficult get enough quiet rest time.
Hmm, that's all I can think of for now...
