Mine's not that bad at all. Apart from the meltdowns, obsessions, and memorizing names and faces, I'm not really otherwise affected.

You're not alone! It's something I've never really fully accepted. I'm still at square one from when I found out I had it four years ago. I don't know, a lot of the description just doesn't fit me very well and makes me feel bad about myself...

The people in my area don't really understand it either, but it's easy to find another aspie. Unfortunately, it's sometimes really hard for me to make friends with them because they're either interested in stuff I absolutely can't stand or they're way too blunt or controlling for me. And I'm the kind of person who likes being the boss, so that doesn't exactly work out.

There's always someone whom has it worst or better, no matter the subject at hand. Mine is pretty decent....

I'm happy and unhappy; strong and weak; scared and brave. All "it" gives me is constant pain when I'm around that which I don't understand (people), nothing more; nothing less. Everything else is just ignorance by those who don't understand me (the door swings...).

"It's" me, and I don't think I have it too "bad" considering I've got a bed, roof and nummy food each night.

If I am AS, I am affected very little at all, I often feel isolated - on the outer ring of things, but I am used to that - and truth be told - isolation allows you to think.

You in any clubs RedMage? I'm surrounded by eccentrics, geeks and the ilk - people who think like me, share common interests with me.
The general population are often boring, and don't understand us too often, afterall - who wants to climb a mountain? I do :).
One of my friends put it nicely - "normal people care more about what happens on Neighbours than real life" - he actually said Hollyoaks, but Neighbours is more cross cultural I think.

I know you like gaming, do you have a LAN centre anywhere near you where you could go and play with other gamers?

Tangibly, it's the reason I'm 28 and have never been anywhere near to having a driver's license.

When I was a teenager I was diagnosed with "childhood schizophrenia." Whatever it was, it must have been bad.

I also blame it for my romantic deficiencies. I'd rather have a girlfriend than a driver's license, that's for sure. But due to things going on, I think in the weeks/months to come I'd maybe better focus on the latter (for the first time in years!). Maybe this summer, maybe?

Otherwise, as far as Aspies go, I'd be considered a social butterfly.

It's probably what prevents me from ever being able to hold down a straight job (well, it could be just prejudice on my part as I haven't done much in that arena beyond pushing mops and flipping burgers, but I don't want to put that to the test), but hell, that's why I'm going into academia.
