Have you ever felt depressed for no apparent reason at all? When nothing has gone wrong recently and you still feel bad. Does anyone know where this might come from? Is it bipolar? I'm not sure, I thought bipolar needed some sort of trigger.

I have had that happen, but as far as I know, I don't have bipolar.

I was told I have chronic depression (dysthymia). It is not an emotional thing but more of being tired and unmotivated, ect. I have also had major depression and that is different. Do you have good moods in between or do you hover between mildly depressed (which some people don't even notice after awhile) and the depressive moods you have.

Your depression is probably chronic loneliness.

I've had these moments where I would have mood swings. I can be quite sensitive to events and take things very personally [to my detriment], so even a few unintentional slights by people can make me feel quite depressed. Once I found myself very upset because no-one responded to a post of mine  Very silly but I can't help it.

I go through phases. Sometimes (these days, mostly) I am happy, but other days I want to dive under a bush and stay there for a while. Usually I get triggered by bad things, but other times I go completely mad with depressed for no reason! I am happy at the moment though, but I am really tired...

When I'm worried about people and pets in my family.

When I think of the person I used to be, and wonder if I'm really much better than I was then.

I think I almost always have this sort of stress or panic or freaked-outness hovering in the background at least a little bit. Sometimes I get a little depressed, but I don't think it lasts real long usually. Or who knows, maybe I'm actually depressed all the time-but I think it's just I'm a little panicked most of the time.

I don't think my mood is always triggered by anything in particular. Sometimes it is, but not always.

I'm very unmotivated, but I don't think that's because I'm depressed for the most part. I think I just don't care about being "motivated" the way people seem to. Like I'll read these things with people who want people with "goals" and who are "motivated"...well, why? Doesn't that just mean you're not happy with yourself now? I don't know.

And actually, I can be motivated if I care about something. I had put on a bunch of weight after high school, and lost all of it in a six month period once I figured out how to use my Palm (ie the PDA) to do a spreadsheet to keep track of calories.

Eh, I'm probably just babbling randomly. I'm not even sure I know what I'm talking about here :D

As far as I know, whereas 'ordinary' depression (which I sometimes suffer from)is normally due to circumstances or a trigger,on the other hand bipolar can switch moods for no apparent reason. If you find yourself going quickly from being hyperactive and
optimistic to suddenly being depressed, then it could be bipolar. I don't think I've got
bipolar myself as I've never felt the extreme highs that alternate with the lows.
For some people who experience depression,it may be that they have an underlying
sadness that surfaces every now and then, despite conscious attempts to stay happy.
There's a feeling that if we didn't experience some sadness then we wouldn't really
recognise true happiness.

Clinical depression is often like that. It is a chemical imbalance.

True. And chronic anxiety is usually the culprit.

I mostly hover between mildly depressed and very depressed, although on the rare occasion that I have something to be happy about the high can last for a day or two.

It sounds like there are many depressed people out there with varying degrees/forms of it.

I get that all the time. It is a weird feeling. I don't have Bipolar I just have trouble reading my feelings and just understanding them. Thats my biggest problem.
