My best friend of 11 years was recently diagnosed with ADHD. One of my college roommates was diagnosed with ADHA at the age of 16. I get along really well with both of these girls. Where I seem to lack they excel and where I excel they seem to lack. It seemed odd to me that two people I’m very comfortable with both have ADHD. Has anyone else run into this interesting situation?

Yes, I get along well with my cousin who has ADHD. I also have ADD myself and my brother does to. I don't get along really well with my brother though, because he's my brother. I also have a friend who's very hyperactive, but she hasn't been diagnosed with anything before.

My AS children and AS husband would tell you that you are exactly right. I am ADD and we thrive as a family. I said in another thread that the AS makes our family stable because it has to be and the ADD allows me to come up with creative solutions and ideas. Your friends probably keep you from sinking into yourself and becoming too rigid (just a guess) and you very likely keep your friends grounded (stable) since ADHD people can be very flighty and unstructured if left to our own devices. I think it is great mix!

My brother has ADHD, my boyfriend thinks he has some autistic traits, but Idk, but I get along with my brother part of the time, because he acts like hes 7, and I act like I'm 3, and were 22 and 24, so it kinda works out haha.

My 2 best friends and I are quite similar. One is an aspie, the other has ADHD and I have TS. They say that 'birds of a feather flock together'!

i think ADD and ADHD is just a name they made for nothing. ADD is just kids being normal. ADHD is just kids who may be a lil excited. its just to sell meds.
then they tell these ppl they have ADD or w/e, and they believe it, and use it to justify them self not controlling themselves.
now they have all this like adult ADD. "i cant pay attention to boring s**t" lol

I partially agree with you. I believe ADHD is a real condition by all means, but I do believe that it is an overdiagnosed condition, especially in children.

I agree that too many kids are getting diagnosed because they're parents don't realize that kids need to get out and play but ADHD is a real thing. I've seen my roommate when she's off her meds and you can't fake that kind of behavior. Its not just an inability to sit still or pay attention. Its an inability to finish a complete thought and an inability to remember something for more than two seconds. Untreated, it leads to serious issues with anxiety and depression. It can also, when very extreme, lead to thoughts and attempts of suicide.
