I can’t cope when the TV and radio/stereo/whatever is on at the same time or when there is a lot of cross talk. I don't get why people put to sounds on the same time. Like when I was at a friend’s house watching TV and his g/f put on the stereo at the same time. I was getting really confused about to blow a fuse. Probably the reason why I left everything behind. Why to people do that? Like what is the point of having the TV and stereo on at the same time?
Is that considered a sensory issue connected to AS? That sounds like me, except I wonder if it's for the same reasons (and I just try to move away from the sound or shut one source off, I don't usually get mad).
I get distracted if there's more than one conversation going on at once (and to a lessor degree if it's a conversation + music). Like if I'm giving instructions to a student at work, and then another two people start talking right next to me, I almost completely lose track of what I was saying. Same deal with a conversation when a TV is on, or having a radio and TV on. I can't fall asleep if a TV is on-the high pitched sound it makes bothers me, and even more, my brain won't "shut off" if it hears the voices. I also can't read if a TV is on (or people are talking). I didn't have my PSP with me while I was waiting for an oil change, and just had a book to entertain myself with. Because they have a TV on in there, I think I got through 4-6 pages (if that) in 30 minutes. I keep having to reread things, because it's like I don't understand them...have to manually go through each word almost. (I don't have any problem with reading, believe me! It's just the second sound that screws me up.)
In fourth grade a teacher always put on a radio with music during class. It was supposed to be a "reward", and EVERYONE except me LOVED it. I couldn't concentrate with it, and it drove me nuts. People were ticked at me when I complained, and the teacher tried to move me to the opposite side of the classroom from the radio (which was better than nothing...)

Also don't like it when people bombard me with instructions I can take them in.
Me either. If people say a whole bunch of steps at once I start getting confused, and kind of miss the whole thing. If it's with my mom, I just ask her to tell me ONE THING AT A TIME, or else write it all down. At work, I try to write it down (I always have my Palm or a pad of paper with me), and/or I repeat stuff back to make sure I got it.
This stuff isn't related to AS, is it?
